Job Description

Relationship Investments (RI) takes a private-equity approach to public and pre-IPO investment opportunities. The team provides strategic capital (from $200 million to more than $2 billion) and takes significant minority stakes in companies to fund organic growth, finance acquisitions, facilitate shareholder transitions and recapitalize balance sheets. RI Asia’s portfolio is more than $5 billion and is strategically targeted for significant growth. The team is responsible for direct deal sourcing, research, execution and asset management in China, India and the rest of Asia. RI Asia is a part of Fundamental Equities Asia, which, in addition to RI, also has a fundamental long short strategy and has a total of more than $20 billion invested throughout Asia.

We are currently seeking an Associate to join the RI team in Hong Kong. The Associate plays a key role in driving transaction execution, managing investments and training Analysts.

Role Specific Accountabilities:

  • Evaluate public and private (pre-IPO) investment opportunities across multiple industries in Asia, with a focus on China
  • Build financial models to analyze returns, test assumptions and perform sensitivity analyses
  • Participate in due diligence on opportunities and work closely with external due diligence vendors, including commercial, accounting, legal and reputational to help evaluate investment merits and risks
  • Meet with company management and intermediaries to review past performance, strategy, outlook, industry issues, and other relevant topics as required
  • Perform asset management through regular financial updates as well as supporting the director for board duties, if any
  • Help draft investment memos and present investment ideas to senior leadership and internal investment committee


If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:

  • 3-5 years experience in private equity, investment banking, consulting, public markets (buyside or  sellside) or other relevant experience
  • Strong research, financial modeling, analytical and valuation skills
  • Experienced in driving important pieces of investment or M&A work and conducting complicated due diligence work
  • Solid communication skills and presentation skills as well as interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated capability of working closely with team members and delivering quality work under tight schedules
  • Demonstrated proficiencies working effectively with third parties to drive deal execution
  • Native Mandarin and strong fluency in English (both verbal and written), is a must
  • Consistent demonstration of our guiding principles of integrity, partnership and high performance and willingness to travel extensively
