We are seeking a motivated Civil / Structural Engineering Trainee interested in developing their career in energy transmission and substations. Based in our Mississauga office, you will join our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Lines team and gain exposure to transmission and station projects across Canada.
Working under the direct supervision and mentorship of a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), you will contribute to structural and foundation design tasks while building practical engineering experience toward professional licensure.
This role is ideal for candidates looking to develop technical expertise in structural engineering within the utility sector.
Primary Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer:
- Assist in the structural and foundation design of overhead transmission lines and associated station facilities (typically 60kV to 500kV).
- Support route selection studies, structure analysis, and foundation design calculations.
- Perform structural analysis and modeling using industry software tools.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Support the development of design documentation such as design basis, scope of work, construction work package and material take-offs.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, mechanical) to support project design requirements.
- Participate in internal design reviews and incorporate feedback from senior engineers.
- Provide support during construction, including responding to RFIs and participating in occasional field visits under supervision.
- Assist with quality control checks on drawings and calculations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 1–3 years of relevant T&D engineering experience.
- Basic knowledge of structural analysis principles and reinforced concrete/steel design fundamentals
- Familiarity with structural analysis software (e.g., S-FRAME, STAAD) is an asset.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other drafting tools is an asset.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop technical competence.
