Job Description
B&A Studios, a CIMA+ company invites applications for a Senior Landscape Architect to join our Urban Planning & Design team, providing support to our Infrastructure Design Groups across Western Canada. While the position will be based in Alberta (Calgary or Edmonton), the successful candidate will integrate into our existing Western Canadian Landscape Team (located in Edmonton and Vancouver).
This role involves delivering high-quality landscape architecture and public realm design work, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to projects across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
The successful candidate will bring strong design vision, technical expertise, land development experience, and project management skills to a broad portfolio including design guidelines, streetscapes, parks, trails, transit corridors, public infrastructure, and private-sector development.
Business development, client relationship building, and proposal support are key components of this position. Placemaking and storytelling experience is considered a strong asset, including the ability to translate local culture, history, and community identity into meaningful design narratives that enhance the character and user experience of public spaces.
Primary responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams including our planning, transportation, infrastructure, buildings groups and more.
- Develop public realm and site design, from concept through to construction completion.
- Oversee the development of accurate working drawing packages, technical specifications, cost estimates, tender documents and construction documents.
- Assist in the preparation of presentation materials for public consultation.
- Support business development and strong client relationships.
- Ensure compliance with required design principles and standards.
- The ability to conduct tree inventories and complete arborist reports is considered an asset.
- Contribute to team leadership, mentorship, and overall growth of the Landscape Architecture practice.
- Prepare and coordinate drawing submissions for municipal approvals (development permits, building permits, construction drawings, landscape plans).
- Communicate effectively with municipal reviewers, utility providers, and regulatory bodies to resolve comments and facilitate approvals.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and construction reviews.
- Provide construction-phase and project close-out support including interpretation of drawings, addressing field issues, and issuing redlines and change orders.
Qualifications
- Degree in Landscape Architecture, or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Landscape, Architecture, or Engineering Consulting environment
- Strong project management skills
- Dedication to design excellence
- Ability to manage multiple project deliverables with overlapping schedules
- AALA stamp a requirement
- Membership, or eligibility for membership, in BCSLA and SALA a strong asset
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong Microsoft Office suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with SharePoint environments
- Familiarity with Bluebeam an asset
- Knowledge of CADD 2024 and Civil 3D 2024 an asset
- Familiarity with Photoshop, InDesign and other graphic programs an asset
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for site visits
