Job Description

We are currently looking for an Electrical Engineering Trainee to join our growing Infrastructure group in Ontario. This role offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic team, contributing to a variety of projects across. This role will be based in our Ottawa office.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary design team, working under the guidance of the Project Manager and Lead Electrical Engineer.
- Assist in the development of electrical power distribution system designs, including single-line diagrams, site power layouts, overcurrent protection, emergency power generation, lighting layouts, and power distribution plans.
- Support the development of Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) designs for SCADA systems, including control panels, P&IDs, process control narratives, I/O lists, instrument selections, network diagrams, and communication panels.
- Assist in preparing designs, calculations, plans, specifications, calculations, reports, and contract documents for municipal building services, particularly for water and wastewater facilities, focusing on power distribution, motor controls, lighting, communications, and security systems.
- Participate in fieldwork and site visits, assisting with investigations, studies, inspections, and reviews of electrical distribution and I&C shop drawings, as well as life safety and communications systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 1-3 years of electrical engineering experience, ideally in water/wastewater or industrial projects.
- Knowledgeable of electrical power distribution systems and I&C designs.
- Familiarity with site work, detailed design, and project engineering within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication skills and a desire to learn and grow within the engineering field.
- Basic experience using design tools such as ETAP or EasyPower preferred, but not essential.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for site visits.
