Job Description
Our Water Engineering department provides engineering consulting services to the water and wastewater industry. Typical clients include local municipalities such as the City of London, Region of Waterloo and extending throughout Ontario. CIMA+ typically works on projects that include pumping station assessments, design and construction, water and wastewater treatment systems, water system planning projects, water modeling projects, asset management, energy optimization, operations support and many other related projects. As a co-op student for our Water Engineering department, you will have the immediate opportunity to contribute to water and wastewater design and planning projects. The successful candidate will support engineering staff on multiple tasks including process design calculations, developing and utilizing hydraulic models to support planning and optimization projects, report writing as well as site investigations and asset inventories. Other tasks such as proposal support and site inspection may be required throughout the term.
Primary Responsibilities
- Participating in design of water and/or wastewater processes for a variety of water, wastewater and municipal infrastructure projects through preparation of design calculations and equipment selection
- Develop and utilize design tools (e.g. InfoWater Pro, Biowin, WaterCAD, PCSWMM, etc.) to support planning and optimization projects
- Prepare sketches, renderings, technical figures, and calculations for engineering reports and presentations as required
- Document, track, and address design comments and drawing markups
- Verifying compliance of drawings with appropriate standards, codes, and guidelines
- Participate in the preparation of engineering specifications, calculations, and permit applications
- Assist in facility inspections
- Carry out planning or problem solving for water and wastewater systems
- Technical report writing
- Proposal preparation
- Site inspection, as required
- Carry out research assignments, as required
- Provide technical assistance to staff, as required
Qualifications
- Student presently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in civil, chemical, environmental engineering
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled in Microsoft Suite software, Project, Adobe, and Visio
- Experience in water or wastewater (asset)
- Thorough understanding of construction drawings
- Technical report writing skills
- Experience carrying out quantity and cost assessments
- Unrestricted Driver Licence
- Own Transportation Required
The salary for this position ranges from $23.75 to $29.40 per hour, depending on your academic profile, the number of credits earned, and your previous co-op or internship experience. The final offer and salary may be adjusted based on your unique profile.
