Description du poste

Petrophysics is used during multiple phases of geophysical project (Processing or Reservoir Characterization projects). Within the CGG Geoscience department, the primary uses of petrophysics are:

  • QC and correct the existing elastic log data, for a safe integration within the different seismic processes.
  • Evaluate the formation encountered (lithologies, porosities and fluids) for a better understanding of the geology during seismic processing and interpretation.
  • Create rockphysics models to understand the possible seismic response based on what-if scenarios

The goal of the internship is to learn the various aspect of petrophysics inside the seismic reservoir characterization team. To do so, the rightful internship will have to learn the nature of petrophysics and how to QC and correct the data for in a second time being able to interpret geologically well data to provide geological support. In-fine the internship will be able to create simple rockphysics model to evaluate potential seismic response in what-if scenarios.

Main steps of the internship :

  1. Build clean well database by loading logs, core and other well information, QC and do primary correction of well logs
  2. Creates simple petrophysical model to derive lithological interpretation from available logs
  3. Implement rock physics model adapted to lithologies encountered to be able to:
  • Recreate missing or erroneous elastic logs
  • Translate production effects (pressure and saturation changes) in terms of elastic properties. What-if scenarios

Qualifications

Relevant Qualifications :

  • Students in the last year of a Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Physics, Geophysics or Engineering.
