Job Description

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for driving commercial growth to achieve our ambition of growing an industry leading Geoscience services business. We need to build strong relationships with our key clients, promote how we differentiate from our competitors & ultimately secure profitable and repeat work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This strategy requires a combined and collaborative effort across business lines under Eastern Hemisphere, together with the wider Geoscience group, to collectively strive for technical excellence, innovation and integration supported by an industry renowned high-quality service.

As part of the Sales & Business Development team, the Saudi Arabia Business Developer is a technical sales position with responsibility for driving growth in the region for CGG services (including seismic imaging, software, multi-physics, geology, satellite mapping), delivered in coordination with the wider CGG Geoscience and Innovation group.

The BDM must be able to communicate the technical value proposition of CGG Geoscience effectively to a wide range of technical experts; hence, having a strong Geoscience background will be critical for this position.

  • The prime role is to develop strong relationships with our clients, promoting our ability to deliver best in class projects and ultimately securing highly profitable repeat business with key client partners.
  • The BDM will be in constant communication with an array of key clients to secure project awards. This could be through existing projects, direct award discussions, tender responses, conferences or more general meetings/visits.
  • In all cases, the BDM needs to engage in open & honest discussions with our clients to represent CGG and win new work.
  • The successful candidate will prepare and present sales proposals to clients, clearly communicate CGG’s technical capabilities and values to clients.
  • The BDM must also keep up to date with technology and build strong internal relationships, whilst monitoring market/client information and devising new strategies to improve the profitability of the company.
  • The role also involves a broader range of duties around how we handle business enquires: this includes direct negotiations and tailored tender responses, working in conjunction with all parts of CGG to provide innovative solutions to maximize our success for potential business.

Principle Accountabilities

  1. Identify and establish relationships with potential clients in the geoscience industry, including oil and gas companies, mining & minerals companies, government agencies, and research institutions in Saudi Arabia.
  2. Develop and implement strategic business development plans to achieve growth targets across geoscience sectors.
  3. Analyze market trends, customer needs, and industry advancements to identify new business opportunities and areas for expansion.
  4. Maintain a strong understanding of the competitive landscape in the Saudi geoscience market.
  5. Collaborate with internal technical teams to develop tailored geoscience solutions for clients.
  6. Prepare and deliver presentations and proposals to prospective clients, demonstrating the company's expertise and capabilities in geoscienice.
  7. Participate in industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to promote the company's services and stay updated on the latest developments in the field.
  8. Input into strategies for securing high-value work including integrated projects with other CGG business lines and external 3rd parties
  9. Account management, post-sales follow up & engagement in projects to ensure effective upselling.
  10. Managing all aspects of bid responses, including but not limited to coordination of technical content with technical team, input into sales/pricing strategy, cost calculation and completion of all supporting bid requirements
  11. Contract negotiation and execution
  12. CRM updates
  13. Input into regional sales strategy and marketing plans

Specific Considerations for Saudi Arabia:

  1. Knowledge of the Saudi Vision 2030 and its implications for the geoscience industry: The Business Developer should be aware of the plan's goals, targets, and initiatives related to the geoscience sector, including the promotion of renewable energy and the development of a sustainable mining industry. This knowledge will enable the candidate to align business development strategies with the country's long-term objectives.
  2. Familiarity with the process of obtaining necessary permits and licenses for geoscience operations in Saudi Arabia: The Business Developer should have a thorough understanding of the processes and requirements for obtaining permits, licenses, and approvals for geoscience operations in the country, ensuring smooth business operations and compliance with local laws and regulations.
  3. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability: The Business Developer should be able to adapt their communication style and business practices to suit the local context, taking into consideration factors such as hierarchy, decision-making processes, and social customs, as well as the unique needs and expectations of clients in the geoscience industry.
  4. Emphasis on relationship-building within the geoscience sector: The Business Developer should have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to cultivate connections with potential clients, partners, and government officials within the geoscience industry in Saudi Arabia.
  5. Awareness of local labour laws and practices: The Business Developer should understand the implications of Saudi practices on hiring decisions and be familiar with local labour laws, regulations, and employment practices within the geoscience sector.
  6. Adaptability to market fluctuations and industry advancements: The Business Developer should be able to monitor market trends, adapt strategies accordingly, and identify opportunities for growth in the geophysics, geology, and HPC sectors even during challenging times.

Qualifications

  1. Strong technical and/or technical sales experience
  2. Minimum BSc in Geology, Geoscience or Geophysics
    • 3-5 years of experience in business development, sales, or a related role within the geoscience industry. Possess a good understanding of E&P value chain
  3. Existing E&P client network is a plus
  4. Fluency in English is a must, fluency in Arabic is preferred
  5. Awareness of energy transition industries
  6. Strong knowledge of the Saudi Arabian business environment, culture, and geoscience sector.
  7. Familiarity with Geoscience industry standard software
  8. Familiarity with MS package including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
