Job Description

We are looking for talented Senior Geoscience Data Specialists to join our GeoSolutions team! 

The success candidate will play a vital role in in the design and development cycles of web applications and data management projects. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure systems/work flows and QC are in place. Running work programs across Business Lines/contractors, ensuring projects meet their deadlines.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Supporting the development and implementation of technologies and efficient workflows to extract, transform, load, manipulate, analyse, report and visualise data for operational and legacy projects
  • You will work on projects to lead with data identification, inventory, extraction, transformation and database loading and will also develop, manage and apply ETL tools, scripts and database systems for GeoSolutions data.
  • Help setup enterprise Database for sourcing all datasets into one schema, including creating tools to enable others in the team to do data loading themselves. You will also work with other business lines to create a process for updating our datasets into the master Delivery database when ready to publish.
  • You will also take the lead setting up CI/CD deployment pipelines for application development and work with Azure Solutions Architects to implement best practises for efficient/rapid deployment.
  • There will be a need to work with external contractors across a number of initiatives, and you will need to take the lead in the program management of these data capture projects.
  • Helping the Business Development team with translating their Geological workflows into tangible/deliverable solutions - Wireframing Web applications and working closely with Developers or having the ability to Develop these solutions yourself.
  • Keep all stakeholders regularly informed on progress and new solutions in the market that will help workflows
  • You will also be expected to engage with clients to understand their requirements, and to help support/troubleshoot our suite of products and datasets.
  • Share knowledge/mentor other members of the team and help with training/upskilling of the team.

This role has a flexible UK location. You can either work remotely or be based in our Crawley (West Sussex) or Llanduno (North Wales) offices. Further details can be discussed with the Hiring Manager at interview stage.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

You are likely to be educated to a degree level in Data Science, Data Management, Computer Science, Computer Programming, or a degree within Earth Sciences, but relevant work experience across data managements/application design.

Required Skills: 

  • Advanced problem solving skills, especially focussed on finding solutions to data workflow, consistency, loading and output problems
  • Passion for computers, software, technology, and digitalising and improving workflows
  • Working knowledge of Python, R, or similar high-level general purpose and statistically focussed programming languages 
  • Familiarity of databases and SQL//Oracle
  • Excellent data visualisation skills  
  • Proficient in design, building, testing and supporting innovation solutions
  • The ability to define and manage project deadlines both internally and externally with contractors
  • An enthusiastic attitude towards learning and flexibility to adapt to new challenges or changes in direction

The following skills may also be beneficial:

  • Familiarity with creating data pipelines to both load data and create/interrogate data already databased
  • Ability to create interactive dashboards e.g. (Power BI/Spotfire)
  • A good working knowledge of ArcGIS software and the principles of spatial data
