Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Climate Modeller to join our growing and vibrant Environmental Science Business. This part of CGG is expanding rapidly, and there is a new opportunity for someone passionate about and with extensive experience of climate modelling who wishes to help steer and develop innovative solutions for business applications.  

Principle Accountabilities

Technical Leadership

Being part of a multi-disciplinary scientific team, you will be responsible for developing the climate modelling capability and results interpretation while promoting a culture of technical excellence within client projects and research & development.

Client Engagement & Business Development Support

Our clients are our partners, and you will build and develop good client relationships through projects, marketing, conferences and other opportunities. Publication of original or novel work in the scientific literature will be actively encouraged. You should also expect to support other groups such as sales, marketing, and business development when needed.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Technical excellence: a strong background in climate modelling and climate data analysis. Good understanding of downscaling techniques to support regional impacts projects and ability to expose data uncertainties.
  • Presentation skills: able to prepare and deliver high quality, professional presentations
  • Mentoring and coaching: experience developing and supporting team members
  • Proactive self-starter: ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Communication: clear and empathetic communicator
  • Business awareness: identifying and exploring business opportunities, aligned with fulfilling business goals

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in climate science and/or computer engineering (MSc or PhD)
  • Experience with CMIP5/CMIP6 model development
  • Experience in running climate model experiments on HPCs
  • Climate model development and understanding of experimental performance
  • Strong experience working in data science & analytics, programming (FORTRAN, Python) and linux OS
  • Experience with the ESMValTool would be advantageous 
  • Experience in data handling and visualisation (GIS tools, CDO and specific Python libraries such as xarray, geopandas, cartopy) would be desirable
