The Technical Business Development Associate for North America & Canada will drive growth in the region for CGG’s Minerals & Mining team (part of CGG’s Geoscience Division). The successful candidate will represent a multi-disciplinary team of subject matter experts who combine to solve some of the biggest challenges in the mining industry, primarily relating to exploration and production & closure (mine site monitoring) activities.

The candidate will work collaboratively with a wide range of industry-leading experts and technologies spanning mineral exploration, satellite remote sensing, seismic and non-seismic geophysics, environmental, geothermal and data sciences, to proactively generate, qualify and support new leads, projects and strategic business opportunities in the region. The role may also support business development activities in other parts of the world, as well as efforts relating to CGG’s other industry offerings.

With an innovative mind set, a highly proactive work ethic and excellent communication skills, the successful candidate will enhance CGG’s presence in what is a strategically vital region for our business and the global mining industry. They will be responsible for representing CGG’s rapidly growing team and business, establishing themselves as the ‘go-to’ for our local clients, for market intelligence, and for developing deep client relationships that lead to new and novel technical developments and commercial revenues.

This will be achieved by leveraging their deep and existing network of contacts and through various activities, including direct calling, online and face-to-face meetings, networking events and presentations (conferences, tradeshows, seminars, videocalls and webinars), social media and digital marketing campaigns. The role will require timely client communication and support of proposals and tenders, as well as regular reporting back to colleagues, including the Head of Minerals & Mining and other key business stakeholders.

Technical knowledge and business development experience spanning the disciplines listed above is absolutely essential (this must be demonstrated in your cover letter), with deeper knowledge of one of more of the following being highly desirable e.g. satellite remote sensing (including InSAR), geophysics (seismic or non-seismic), IoT, data science (AI/ML) solutions – ideally coalescing in a broad and demonstrable understanding of the mining sector and the real-world application of such technologies.

The role will join a strong and professional culture of providing accurate and honest consultative advice to clients in response to their complex challenges and requirements. The candidate will be effective at listening to, capturing and relaying client-led feedback to the team, and in turn must be able to effectively communicate CGG’s technology-led and rapidly evolving value proposition to a wide range of experts, stakeholders and decision makers.

Whilst CGG’s mining activities are global, its Minerals & Mining team primarily operates out of the United Kingdom, with support from an equivalent business development professional based in Perth, Australia. As such, the successful candidate will be expected to work closely with colleagues in Europe, Australia via regular meetings that will take place to accommodate these and other time zones. You will also be expected to travel to support the activities described above (whilst travel remains restricted due to COVID, we hope to see an improvement during 2022).
