Job Description

CGG Data Hub are looking for an experienced and adaptable Database Administrator with a preference for PostgreSQL or Oracle, to join our growing team of database engineers, cloud architects, software engineers and other SMEs. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is passionate about database architecture and has good knowledge of best practices in database design and management.

You will be building, maintaining and configuring distributed database systems for our clients, employing best practices in areas such as change control, performance tuning and disaster recovery. Experience with Azure services will be beneficial, as you will be involved in the deployment and ongoing management of these databases in Azure. Although there is an opportunity to assist with Oracle administration, this role will primarily be focused on Postgres, so experience in this field is a distinct advantage, otherwise a willingness to learn and progress in this area is required.

Team Description 

Data Hub is a growing and dynamic team providing leading edge technology solutions and services to solve our clients data transformation and analytics challenges across a range of industries including geothermal, environmental, hydrocarbon and mineral exploration.
You will be working in an open and collaborative environment, working alongside our teams of data engineers, machine learning engineers and subject matter experts.

You can be based remotely or in one of our hub locations (North Wales or Crawley).

Qualifications

The following skills and experience are expected.

  • Strong database administration skills (ideally PostgreSQL or Oracle)
  • Strong SQL skills and ability to optimize queries (ideally PostgreSQL or Oracle)
  • Database design
  • One or more procedural languages – e.g. PL/SQL/Oracle, PL/PgSQL
  • Version control
  • Linux administration and basic shell scripting
  • CI/CD
  • Problem solving
  • Ability to think both big picture and in the detail

  • Experience with spatial data management
  • ETL tools
  • Liquibase
  • Background in software engineering and best practices
  • Neo4J and non-relational databases
  • Microsoft Azure
