Job Description

CGG’s consulting services offer comprehensive geoscience knowledge and provide our clients with valuable insight into all aspects of reservoir development through the life cycle, from basin prospectively to reservoir dynamic modeling and economic analysis.

The Reservoir Geomechanical Expert is responsible for all geomechanical analysis and project work, which mostly includes generation of 1D and 3D geomechanical models. The successful candidate will be the expert for reservoir geomechanics with a strong grounding in the principles of reservoir engineering. A major element of the position will be to work with the business development team to promote geomechanical activities globally.

The incumbent will ensure they strive to ensure productions deadlines, project objectives, technical specifications, quality control requirements and financial targets are met.

  • Technical Execution of the Project                                                                     

Perform independently internal and external geomechanical project work, including, wellbore stability analysis, stress analysis, fault seal analysis, pore pressure, 1D and 3D mechanical earth modelling, and other related activities. As part of the reservoir development group, the successful candidate will provide expertise on geomechanics and integrate their results into multi-disciplinary projects. Run and present technical results to clients as required for the optimisation and validation of the workflow. Develop and optimise the workflows along with their peers.

  • Project Management        

Responsible for keeping projects on schedule and fulfilling project management commitments. With input from the client and direct supervisor, organize and plan the various validation, production and QC phases of the project as per the contract and following quality procedures. Identify and make timely requests for any additional resources to ensure the continued progress of the project. Draw up and manage project monitoring documents according to CGG procedures and client requirements. Ensure that quality control procedures are applied and that product quality is optimal. Communicate the resource requirements to ensure the project progresses according to schedule

  • Communications and Client Relations    

As an expert in geomechanics, the ideal candidate will have strong communication and presentation skills, as well as have proven ability to communicate at different levels in the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with other business activities in Crawley to support Geoscience integrated study activities.  Ability to interface with new clients and promote CGG geomechanical capabilities in order to grow new business opportunities.

  • Commercial          

The Reservoir Geomechanical Expert will work closely with Sales & Marketing to define the scope of work and project timings during the preparation of tenders. In some cases preparation of simple quotations for clients or other BLs is expected. The successful candidate should take the initiative in promoting the use of optional processes and new technologies in order to provide the best technical results possible, as well as increasing project revenues & margin. The Reservoir Geomechanical Expert will be expected to visit customers for data collection, interim meetings, or project presentations, as well as technically promote geomechanical offerings while building relationships and providing good customer care.

  • Innovation 

Proactively seeks new techniques and innovative solutions to colleagues. He/she can also be involved in new developments in the area of geomechanics as part of the R&D reservoir activities. CGG has its own coupled reservoir model and geomechanical simulator that uses in its geomechanic studies.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be educated to preferably MSc level in Reservoir Engineering or similar engineering background with at least 10 years in the oil & gas industry, ideally working in a service or oil company as a Geomechanic engineer for at least 5 years.

Extensive experience in reservoir engineering, 1D and 3D geomechanical modelling is required.  

Strong problem solving skills, the ability to identify problems and articulate solutions, as well as experience working in an integrated team is necessary.

The ideal candidate will also be familiar with geoscience industry standard software and with finite element modelling and programming. Experience in amending/writing new code and a knowledge of python coding would be an advantage.

Experience using some of the commercial geomechanics simulators is required.

Publications/papers in the geomechanical arena would be an advantage.
