Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

o   Develop technical scope and deliverables for project proposal generation

o   Work closely with the Subsurface Imaging group on processing projects to support the delivery of a high-end integrated geoscience solution

o   Act as technical authority in the field of geophysical interpretation, advising integrated project teams within different internal groups

o   Contribute to business development activities including building strong long-term technical relationships with key clients

o   Be a collaborator to the in-house Peer Review Process, reviewing integrated studies and seismic-focused projects

o   Undertake coaching, training, developing, and mentoring of peers and junior staff regarding the effective use of geophysical tools and techniques and best-practice approaches to seismic interpretation

 

Your Technical Skills:

·       Proven performance in frequently undertaking the following technical tasks:

Regional geological synthesis, well to seismic tying, 2D and/or 3D seismic interpretation, seismic attribute analysis, geobody definition and visualisation, velocity modelling, identification/definition of hydrocarbon plays and prospects and prospect risking and volumetric assessment.  In addition, you will have a sound working knowledge of seismic processing workflows, AVO analysis and seismic QI approaches

·       Highly experienced in undertaking North Sea licence evaluations and fully conversant with UK and Norwegian stratigraphic nomenclature

·       Wide ranging technical leadership skills: applicable to tackling E&P subsurface challenges, most importantly related to geophysical and seismic interpretation solutions

·       Comprehensive Project Management skills with a proven ability to keep a project on track and ensure the delivery of technically excellent results

·       Creative problem-solving skills: you will analyse situations in a timely manner, diagnose problems, identify key issues, establish, evaluate, and implement the most appropriate course of action

·       High quality, impactful technical assurance skills with a demonstrated ability to perform technical QC and provide value-adding feedback to teams

·       Exemplary presentation skills for a wide audience both internally and externally that includes a clear and effective communication style

·       Proven expertise in working with Schlumberger Petrel geological and geophysical interpretation tools

 

 

Qualifications

Your qualifications and experience:

·       A BSc in geological/geophysical sciences, but ideally with an additional MSc or PhD in a geoscience discipline

·       Extensive experience in E&P operating companies possibly combined with time in Petroleum Geoscience consultancy

·       A proven track record in geophysical interpretation, preferably with multi-regional and/or global geoscience experience

 

The following is also desirable:

·       Knowledge of machine learning and its implementation to assist seismic data workflows

·       Strong familiarity with Ellis PaleoScan seismic interpretation software and familiarity with geospatial software applications such as Esri ArcGIS Pro and Petrosys

It is anticipated that a Principal Geoscientist may attend a combination of internal & external training courses and industry events. All our staff work with their line manager to agree development targets and a career progression plan.

Several routes exist for development as a Principal Geoscientist and these discussions will be undertaken with the line manager and Group Manager.
