Your responsibilities
Are you looking to become a library cataloguer?
The Scientific Information Service ensures CERN scientific publications are properly indexed in digital repositories, processing 18K records per year. The selected candidate will work in the Archives & Library Section. This position gives the opportunity to gain experience in curation and cataloguing of scientific documents. Join a diverse and dynamic team of dedicated librarians and contribute to our collaborative environment.
The main tasks are:
- Curating CERN scientific publications in INSPIRE (https://inspirehep.net/) and the CERN Document Server (https://cds.cern.ch/), including:
- Cataloguing in JSON and MARC of scientific articles, conference papers, and other document types.
- Checking and updating records to ensure accurate metadata in our systems.
- Updating and writing procedures related to cataloguing/curation.
- Scanning documents and preparing metadata files to ingest them in the repositories.
The successful applicant will also participate in other activities of the Archives & Library section:
- Taking part in Library desk shifts to help researchers in their use of the Library services.
- Fulfilling other tasks related to the Library & Archives work according to the needs and the ongoing activities.
Comprehensive training will be provided for this position.

Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Library & Information Science (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
