Job Description
Your responsibilities
You are a scientist/engineer interested to join a diverse team of professionals working for the Compact Muon Solid (CMS) experiment and have a role in the scientific results produced by it. You will join the CMS Alignment, Calibration and Database (AlCa-DB) team, which coordinates the detector and physics object groups for the preparation and deployment of the alignment and calibration conditions.
You will:
- Manage all programming and infrastructure support of the CMS databases related to online and offline conditions data handling and processing related to alignment and calibration;
- Coordinate the management of the databases at CMS P5 site;
- Work in close collaboration with the CERN IT DBAs to ensure the stability of the services;
- Coordinate scheduled updates and other maintenance tasks;
- Provide contacts and expertise to identify bottlenecks in operations and propose optimizations as needed;
- Provide and maintain tools for the users (O2O, Dropbox, GlobalTag, etc).

Skills and/or knowledge
- Proficiency in Python
- Proficiency in C++
- ORACLE database and database handling in general
- DB handling tools, such as SQL, sqlalchem
- Web frameworks (CherryPy, Flask)
- jQuery, AJAX
- Knowledge of the High Energy Physics work environment is considered a plus
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Software engineering studies (or a related field) by the application deadline.
- Your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
