Your responsibilities

Are you a passionate Mechanical Technician who would like to participate in the design, development, manufacturing and commissioning of particle detector components, mechanical systems and infrastructures for a CERN Experiment? Take part!

These activities will take place within the workshop, the design office and underground areas at the LHCb Experiment. You will collaborate closely with experienced technicians, and engineers in a highly motivating and international environment.

You will join the LHCb Detector and Operation section which is in charge of operating, maintaining and upgrading the technical and mechanical infrastructure of the LHCb experiment and detectors.

Your primary responsibilities will encompass the following tasks:

  • Design, manufacture and assembly of components, devices and structures;
  • Provide technical support to the operation, maintenance and upgrade of infrastructure;
  • Participate in interventions on detector systems and mechanical installation, on surfaces and in underground areas;
  • Contact with CERN workshops and external suppliers;
  • Prepare and compile relevant documentation.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Experience of CAD systems such as CATIA for the creation of 3D models/assemblies and 2D technical drawings;
  • Experience in machining of parts, assembling and testing of mechanical systems;
  • Good communication, well-organized with accountability.
  • Ability to Work in team, as well as independently.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical studies (or a related field) by the application deadline.
  • Your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree are not eligible.

This position requires:

  • Participation in a regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays and official holidays.
  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
