Job Description

Your responsibilities

The Engineering (EN) Department is composed of 8 groups that provide CERN with the Engineering Competences, Infrastructure Systems and Technical Coordination required for the design, installation, operation, maintenance and dismantling phases of the CERN accelerator complex and its experimental facilities. Specifically, the Planning, Administration & Safety (PAS) Group is responsible for supporting the Department Head in the management and planning of the department's material and personnel resources, as well as for all matters related to safety and environment.

As part of the Safety team, your tasks will be to support the Department Safety Officer (DSO) on a wide variety of projects aimed to increase safety within the department. In this, you will act as an advisor and provide expertise when it comes to safety related topics. You will also be able to take initiatives to standardize and provide frameworks for the processes and procedures regarding incidents/accidents. 

In particular, you will:

  • Analyse incidents
  • Write prevention messages
  • Help organise evacuation drills
  • Assist the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO)

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Knowledge of the main safety risks (of personnel, equipment, chemicals, etc)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Initiative, autonomy and adaptability
  • Fluent in English or French, with the ability to work in the other language

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Health Safety Environment (HSE) (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

This position requires:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6194 and 6808 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
