Job Description

Your responsibilities

As a Construction Project Engineer in SCE Department, PPM Group, you will work under the supervision of a CERN Project Manager, coordinating construction projects with internal and external stakeholders.

If selected for this opportunity, you will follow up the entire design of new projects at CERN. More concretely, you will:

  • Participate in feasibility studies & preliminary design;
  • Commission design from external architects/engineers;
  • Coordinate building design with other equipment and submit a detailed design to end users;
  • Take part in the preparation of calls for tenders, firms selection, opening of offers, decisions on designer selection;
  • Supervise the execution of civil engineering works, comprising the following:
  1.    Ensuring, with external consultants, that all new surface and underground construction complies with contractual drawings & specification documents;
  2.    Supervising works on-site, checking measurements based on bill of quantities, certifying payments and making sure costs and schedules are maintained;
  3.    Organizing hand-over procedures, following up any subsequent work;
  4.    Ensuring all safety measures are taken to avoid accidents on site.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Background as Civil Engineer / Architect;
  • Experience in Civil Engineering works;
  • Design or construction use of Project Management tools;
  • Fluent in both English and French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Civil Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

This position requires:

  • Interventions in underground installations.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6194 and 6808 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
