Your responsibilities

We are looking for a gateware (HDL) developer to join the White Rabbit project , a CERN-born technology and now an industry-standard that provides sub-nanosecond synchronisation and deterministic data transfer over a distributed network.

The White Rabbit Switch (WRS), is the core component of a White Rabbit network and now a new, higher-performance version of it is being developed. Join us and take an active role in the design of this fully open-sourced Ethernet switch!

You will be part of :

  • The Beams department, responsible for the beam generation, acceleration, diagnostics, controls and performance optimization for the LHC and its injector accelerators.
  • The Controls Electronics and Mechatronics (CEM) Group, which develops and maintains a centralized competence in controls hardware and low-level software, electronics design, production and radiation tolerance, mechatronics and robotics, test and measurement systems. 

In this role, you will: 
- define the architecture of the new WRS - Gateware development of core components of the WRS. 

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Experience in the design of electronics based on field programmable logic-based devices (FPGA);
  • Knowledge of VHDL/ Verilog/ System Verilogm, Xilinx Vivado
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools such as: Gitlab CI/CD, automated hardware tests
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Electronic engineer (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a fellow or graduate contract before.
