Job Description

Your responsibilities

Within a few years, the need for simulation data at the High Energy Physics (HEP) experiments at CERN will increase significantly. To tackle this issue, efforts to decrease the simulation time are being undertaken, including the implementation of fast simulation methods using machine learning. We are looking for a data scientist who is passionate about driving innovation and exploring new architectures for generative models and integrating them with Geant4, the standard HEP particle simulation toolkit, to see them widely used by all experiments.

Join a small team working on the fast shower simulation. Work on R&D for the generative models for fast shower simulation, aiding the current effort, but also performing new studies. This work is performed in the interexperimental community, applying the developed methods to multiple detectors, making an even bigger impact in the HEP community.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Required:
    • Strong programming skills in Python with demonstrated experience in PyTorch or TF.
    • Experience with generative machine learning models.
    • Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills.
    • Good programming skills in C++.
  • An advantage:
    • Previous experience with HEP Monte Carlo simulation.
    • Previous work on generative models for fast shower simulation.
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Computer Science, Physics (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a fellow or graduate contract before.
