Job Shadowing

  • Intern

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization.

Job Description

CERN is an organization that promotes the training and transmission of knowledge through various programmes, one of which is for “job shadowing” placements, created in response to the enthusiasm of young students.

We do our best to support young students in their initiatives in finding a job shadowing placement. However, we receive a very high number of applications for internships and are only able to offer a limited number of placements to students. This “job shadowing” is for a period of minimum 1 day up to 4 weeks (less than a month) and must be an obligatory part of the school programme. We highly recommend students to come either from the local region or to be accompanied by an adult during the entire stay at CERN as well as having the necessary financial means to cover the costs in the area (see attachment).

Please send us your CV (date of birth is mandatory) and letter of motivation in PDF format outlining your field of interest as well as your preferred dates of your stay at CERN. We really would like to read, in your own words, your motivation and knowledge of CERN and the area(s) where you would like to spend your placement.

Qualifications

•     “Job shadowing” must be an obligatory part of the school programme.

Appointment Conditions
•    The application must be submitted at least 2 months before the start date of the job shadowing.
•    The maximum duration of “job shadowing” is four weeks in a year.
•    You come from the local region or you will be accompanied by an adult during the entire stay at CERN and you have the necessary financial means to cover the costs in the area.
•    This is an unpaid “job shadowing” experience.

Additional Information

You must apply online. Once your application has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.

You will be asked to upload your CV (DOB mandatory) and letter of motivation in PDF along with your field of interest and preferred dates of your stay at CERN.

Recruitment Process

Once your application has been received, it will be passed to the person concerned in the various departments at CERN. If you are selected by a supervisor, you will be contacted by email directly by the department for the necessary paperwork such as registration form, confirmation of your address, bilateral agreement and parental consent. Please inform your educational establishment that CERN has its own “job shadowing” convention, which is the only authoritative convention.

If you do not receive a positive response within three weeks after receipt of your application, please consider that the answer to your application is negative. Thank you for your understanding.
