Electromechanical Technician (TE-MSC-TM-2022-151-LD)

  • Contract

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

Are you a skilled electromechanical technician with experience in assembly, commissioning and operation of mechatronic systems or the maintenance and operation of complex test benches, looking to stretch yourself and take on a new challenge? Join CERN's Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats Group and contribute to the magnet test  team in the operation of their world-class test and measurement laboratories, for the qualification of the next generation of superconducting magnets, guiding particle beams in a variety of new accelerator projects. Take part!

As an electromechanical technician, you will be part of CERN's Technology Department (TE), which is responsible for technologies specific to existing particle accelerators, facilities and future projects. You will join the Magnet, Superconductors and Cryostat Group, which is responsible for the magnets of the beam lines of the entire CERN accelerator complex, and in particular the Test and Magnetic Measurement Section (TE-MSC-TM) whose mandate covers the test and magnetic measurements of normal and superconducting accelerator magnets.

Functions

As an Electromechanical Technician, in the Technology (TE) department*, Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostat (MSC) group, you will:

  • Prepare and configure the test benches and its associated electronics instrumentation for the test of superconducting magnets. Participate to the assembly and commissioning of new test benches;
  • Carry out installation and preparation work for the cold testing of cryomagnet assemblies;
  • Operate the test benches for the qualification tests of superconducting magnets; interpret first line result validation and report on test results;
  • Carry out maintenance on instrumentation and safety systems, and perform on-site interventions during superconducting magnet testing;
  • Compile or prepare the documentation (test procedures and protocols, QA documents) required for the magnet test benches and contribute to the release of test documentation.
