Job Description

Introduction

The position is open in the Device Provisioning and Productivity section of the Compute and Devices group which supports 3000 macOS and iOS devices and 10000 Windows devices, manages server infrastructure of over 500 servers, provides over 100 applications, anti-virus, printing and configuration management tools for CERN.

Your responsibility will be to provide macOS and iOS-based services, design, maintain, evolve and enhance the Mobile Device Management (MDM) infrastructure and select, propose and deploy applications and configurations used by thousands of CERN’s scientists and staff every day. Participate in the definition of the device provisioning strategy of the largest particle physics lab in the world: CERN.

Functions

As a Mac and iOS Service Manager, you will:

  • Design, support, maintain and improve a productive and secure macOS and iOS computing environment. Understand and follow product evolutions;
  • Maintain and evolve a robust Mobile Device Management (MDM) infrastructure for macOS and iOS end-user devices from the design of the architecture to the selection and implementation of the appropriate technical solutions;
  • Integrate the MDM with other parts of IT infrastructure and enhance processes (licence strategy and provisioning, eligibility criteria), define and configure appropriate test strategies;
  • Deploy, maintain, and update applications and automated configurations for macOS and iOS devices;
  • Manage software licences and monitor software usage;
  • Issue recommendations regarding Apple hardware configurations;
  • Assist users in accessing functions of Apple programs such as Apple Developer Program, Apple Device Enrolment Program and Apple School Manager. Assist IT Management concerning changes in these programs;
  • Capture and understand users’ needs and constraints and provide efficient user-oriented support. Provide the user community, peers and management with technical expertise and advice and manage documentation.

Qualifications

Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of computer science or a related field.

Experience:

  • Experience in installation, operation, and maintenance (preventive and corrective) of computing systems, including security assessment and patch deployment
  • Experience in development of application software for macOS and iOS
  • Experience in administration of computing systems including macOS and Linux

Technical competencies:

  • Knowledge of operating systems: administration: macOS, iOS, and Linux; Knowledge of systems configuration tools: puppet, JAMF MDM.
  • Capturing and analysis of requirements for ICT systems: as well as identification and selection of relevant emerging ICT technologies.
  • Knowledge of programming techniques and languages: zsh, Python, ELK Stack, SQL and Swift or Objective-C.
  • Installation, operation and maintenance (preventive and corrective) of computing systems.
  • Development, review and plan computing and communication infrastructure evolution (campus, accelerator complex and experimental areas).

Language skills:

Spoken and written English: ability to understand and speak English language in professional contexts with the willingness to learn French; as well as the ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations in English.

Employment Conditions
