Join our team as a Software Engineer, and participate in preparing CERN’s future integrated Engineering Platform!

You will help consolidate data from multiple engineering data sources into future Digital Twins of our accelerator installations. Such virtual representations of our equipment will not only provide new ways of exploring, simulating and analysing the data, they will also allow immersive visualization using Virtual Reality (VR) and/or Augmented Reality (AR).

You will help prepare technology demonstrators to showcase the potential of the Design Digital Twins for future accelerators, such as the Future Circular Collider (FCC), enabling design from anywhere in the world, meeting the challenge to reduce operations and maintenance costs by an order of magnitude.

Eligibility criteria

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
• You have a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other related field;
• You have no more than 4 years’ experience after completing your highest diploma.

Essential skills and experience:

• Experience with game, rendering, and physics engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine;
• Experience with VR/AR frameworks;
• Practical application development experience using .Net or Java.

One of the following skills would be advantageous:

• Experience with SQL Database Management Systems;
• Experience with front-end technologies such as React or Angular, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS;
• Knowledge of 3D and CAD concepts and file formats;
• Knowledge of Mesh modelling: Blender, Autodesk 3D Studio Max or similar tools;
• Knowledge of Simulation software.

In return, CERN will provide you with:

• An employment contract for between 6 months (minimum) up to 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months.
• A stipend ranging from 5,321 to 6,606 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
• Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
• Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
• 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
