We are looking for a Legal Advisor to join the HSE Unit at CERN to support its legal advisor in her activities.

Within CERN the HSE unit is responsible, in particular, for:

1. the establishment, update and interpretation of the Organization's regulatory framework in matters of Safety;
2. radiation protection;
3. occupational medicine within the Organization;
4. fire and rescue services;
5. the provision of advice and support in matters of occupational health and safety; as well as
6. the monitoring of - and reporting on the environmental impact of the Organization’s activities.

While the majority of your work is likely to be generated from the establishment, update and interpretation of the Organization's regulatory framework in matters of Safety (drafting Safety rules and related documents and advising stakeholders as to their practical implementation), you can nonetheless expect to be involved in other aspects of HSE related legal activities (support to Safety related committees such as CERNs Safety Policy Committee, legal analysis of HSE initiatives, support in the implementation of HSE related treaties) during the course of the Fellowship.  

For this position within the Program, you will need to meet the following requirements:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. 
• You have a Master, a LLM or PhD and you have relevant professional experience or skills regarding HSE related subjects, substantive EU law or public international law with a minimum of 4 years' relevant experience and a maximum limit of 10 years’ experience after completion of your Master degree.
• Excellent spoken and written English or French and good working knowledge of the other language is essential.
• This Fellowship demands good analytical skills and an interest in HSE related subjects.  
• Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship.

In return, CERN will provide you with:

• An employment contract for between six months (minimum) up to a maximum of 36 months.
• A stipend ranging from 7,170 to 8,143 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
• Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
• Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
• 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
