You will join the Legal Service, which, reporting to the Director-General provides legal support for the execution of CERN’s mission within its applicable legal framework.
Functions
As a Legal Adviser in the Legal Service, you will perform your duties under the supervision of the Head of the Legal Service’s Institutional Law Section.
Working with the Legal Service team and with colleagues across the Organization, you will:
- Provide legal advice on CERN’s governance and international status, as well as its internal functioning, in particular with respect to institutional matters and questions concerning data privacy;
- Contribute to the drafting and implementation of internal legislation;
- Support internal investigations in domains including harassment, fraud and computer security;
- Advise and, as needed, defend the Organization in employment and Pension Fund cases, including before the Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organization (ILOAT);
- Interact with a broad range of interlocutors, both internally and externally, including the authorities of CERN’s Host States.
Qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of public international law, or equivalent or a related field.
Complementary training in the law applicable to intergovernmental organisations would be an advantage.
Experience:
- Demonstrated extensive experience in the provision of legal advice within an intergovernmental organisation, including in drafting internal legislation and international agreements;
- Proven experience in preparing litigation before the ILOAT;
- Experience in the drafting, implementation and application of data privacy legislation.
Technical competencies:
- Knowledge of International Administrative Law (law of the International Civil Service);
- Legal drafting;
- Knowledge of public law;
- Knowledge of data protection law.

Employment Conditions
