Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is currently looking for a talented Material Artist to join our Environment Art team in Warsaw to work on AAA games. As a Material Artist, you will be helping to create a library of realistic materials to be spread across a variety of worlds for our upcoming projects that millions of players will dive into. Daily responsibilities

  • Create photorealistic materials for different uses, (tiling, decals, atlases etc.) in a variety of tools. Utilising a good understanding of physically based rendering, art direction, player guidance and metrics.
  • Participate in the creation of plans and concepts for locations and assets.
  • Cooperate with our Art Directors and Art Leads to push the quality of your materials, while maintaining artistic consistency and game vision.
  • Collaborate directly with the Environment and Asset artists involved in using the library of prepared materials.
  • Prepare patterns and decorative elements with our Concept Artists for use on assets and locations.
  • Collaborate with Technical artists to prepare shaders using your materials.
  • Use your knowledge to help put the finishing touches on assets, landscape and architecture using your materials.
  • Maintain the production pipeline and help achieve the project's visual quality and performance goals.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience and one shipped AAA title.
  • Strong skills in procedural material creation software (Adobe Substance 3D Designer)
  • Experience in Adobe Photoshop or equivalent
  • Efficient skills in one of the leading modelling packages (3DS Max, Maya, Blender etc.)
  • Good knowledge of colour theory and lighting techniques.
  • Ability to work from scanned data
  • Strong understanding of physically based rendering practices (PBR).
  • Good knowledge of shaders and supporting texture maps
  • Self-motivated, proactive and dedicated to improving your work
  • Ability to estimate workload and manage deadlines
  • Creativity and an eye for detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fluent English.
  • Passion for games.

Nice to have
(Please note that these skills are not required to apply for the position)

  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine 5.

Working mode

  • Office-First: working primarily from the Warsaw or Kraków office for a minimum 3 days per week.
