Intake Clinician (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC)

  • Full-time

Company Description

Are you a licensed clinician looking to learn new skills and contribute to social justice for people impacted by the criminal legal system? Would you like to receive six months of comprehensive training by national experts in the use and administration of an evidence-based risk assessment tool, the START and START:AV? If so, we need your clinical and assessment skills on the new ATI Intake Assessment Team at CASES! This new team, led by a forensic clinical psychologist, is conducting intake assessments for the CASES alternative-to-detention/ incarceration (ATD/ATI) programs for youth/young adults and people with serious mental illness. These ATD/ATI programs directly help reduce the utilization of jails and prisons.

Come join our team to reduce the City's reliance on correctional institutions, promote justice, and help NYC achieve its goal to close Rikers Island in 2026. At CASES, we offer clinical supervision (which can be used toward licensure), free continuing education credits for LMSW/LCSWs and LMHCs, as well as a comprehensive training curriculum available to all employees. We are a diverse team at CASES, and we welcome candidates of all genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and abilities to apply.

The Intake Clinician is responsible for conducting evaluations to identify eligible participants, preparing reports in a timely manner, and advocating to criminal legal stakeholders (e.g., prosecutors and judges) related to assessment findings and ATD/ATI recommendations. The ATI Intake Assessment Team is the link between the courts and the CASES community ATD/ATI programs, and as such all ATI Intake staff will also collaborate closely with community program colleagues to ensure court mandates are translated into programming. We are seeking three licensed master’s-level clinicians with knowledge of forensic mental health assessment and treatment planning: one for the Manhattan team, one for the Brooklyn team, and one for the Bronx team. All positions will be based in the CASES court office for the specified borough but will provide coverage across all boroughs as needed.

All applicants must comply with CASES/NYC's vaccination policy. Individuals selected for employment cannot begin working until they provide verification that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (with an FDA-authorized vaccine) or submit and gain approval for a Medical or Religious Exemption. Individuals approved for exemption must submit weekly PCR test results.
