Job Description

Job Title:        Team Leader (LCSW)

Location:         Harlem

Reports To:    Director

Overview:          CASES Short-term Alternatives and Referrals to Treatment (newSTART) program is a short-term alternative-to-incarceration program providing rapid screening, identification of need and brief motivational enhancement interventions (individual and group) for individuals with extensive low-level involvement in the criminal justice system. The program serves individuals with a range of needs including severe substance use disorders, serious mental illness, behavioral health, education/employment, homelessness, tenuous participation or engagement in the treatment/social services, and repeated misdemeanor arrests primarily for stealing and drug possession.  newSTART is seeking a Team Leader who is responsible for the supervision of the multi-disciplinary program staff providing alternative-to-incarceration (ATI) The Team Leader coordinates program admissions and the day-to-day delivery of services. The Team Leader maintains oversight of program operations to ensure participants receive services that are strengths-based, culturally sensitive and adhere to the core principles of risk, need and responsivity to reduce recidivism, increase engagement in treatment services and support participants to achieve goals for treatment, recovery, rehabilitation, and crime-free community integration in a trauma-informed environment. The Team Leader oversees the implementation and use of evidence-based approaches to engagement, public health, substance abuse, mental illness, unemployment, and criminal thinking and criminal behavior supports participants to reduce criminal recidivism and access community resources.

 

 

Responsibilities:

·     Oversee the clinical and administrative operations of the newSTART Program

·     Ensure the timely flow and intensity and frequency of services to meet individual participant needs based on their readiness for engagement, likelihood of engagement, to meet program and contractual goals;

·   Lead the integration of gender-responsive specialized services under the Women’s Diversion Program initiative formulating services and collaborations with providers skilled at engaging justice-involved women; 

·  Ensure crisis intervention is managed appropriately including need for medical or psychiatric hospitalization of participants;

·  Determine a participant’s capacity to participate in the program including the assessment of psychiatric symptoms, aggression, intoxication or other factors that would impede the individual’s ability to safety adhere to the rules of the program;

·  Use motivational interviewing and supervise staff in use of motivational interviewing to engage participants in services;

·   Provide regular supervision to program staff;

·   Allocate time to direct participant services including work in the community and work with staff to provide direct assistance, coaching and guidance;

·   Ensure completeness and accuracy of assessments, progress notes and program data;

·    Lead regular and consistent organizational and clinical team meetings;

·     Maintain linkages of  network of providers to continue to assist with the engagement of participants in need of services;

·     Supervise electronic chart-keeping activities in accordance with confidentiality regulations;

·     Ensure staff documentation is completed for monthly invoicing;

·     Provide in-service training and promote staff development to ensure case management staff have core competencies;

·     Authorize time sheets, ordering of supplies, vacation requests and related administrative needs to maintain the smooth operation of the team;

·      Manage petty cash fund and program budget;

·      Monitor the vacation and leave requests of the staff;

·      Provide culturally competent services in accordance with CASES policies and practices;

·      Conduct outreach to community providers, families and significant others to gather collateral information for service planning;

·      Ensure the program achieves expected performance milestones in accordance with contracts and expectations of funding sources and present analysis of performance at monthly performance measurement meetings;

·     Utilize program data to inform program operations and to make device and implement corrective action plans;

·    Supervise staff and support the alignment of individual staff performance targets towards overall program goals;

·    Complete quarterly performance reports to the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice;

·     Coordinate participant discharges to community treatment, case management and homeless services resources, and in coordination with Health Homes;

·     Any other duties as required by the supervisory and executive staff

Qualifications

·         Professional NYS license LCSW;

·         2+ years of experience working with justice-involved participants including adults with behavioral health needs (trauma, mental illness and/or substance use); 

·         Experience providing services in-vivo in the community;

·         2+ years of experience working on a multidisciplinary team;

·         Proficiency in Microsoft suite, knowledge of Salesforce preferred;

·         Tenacity and ability to think out of the box and motivate staff to work creatively with hard to engage participants as well as within a correctional facility with correctional staff

·         Knowledge of the criminal justice system, and

·         Spanish speaking a plus.

 

Additional Information

 

Salary: $60,000 fulltime 35-hour week with excellent benefits.
