I: JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Transport Officer, the Driver will be responsible for the safe driving and Care vehicles and property. He/she will at all times comply with the traffic regulations and the Organizations’ policies and regulations on vehicle Management as well as the Kenya Traffic Act CAP 403, Laws of Kenya.

II: RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

R1: Perform daily, weekly, monthly transport duties.

1.1              Drive care vehicles, and or equipment as shall be assigned by the Supervisor in a safe and economical manner in conjunction with the regulations in place.

1.2              The Driver responsible for the routine check-up of the vehicles, routine check-up to include but not limited to oil, brake function, water, lights & tire condition, windshield wipers, etc.

1.3       Confirm availability of vehicle tools and equipments before, during and after work.

1.4       The Driver shall always maintain assigned vehicles clean and in good condition, properly for the convenience of the Organizations’ operations.

1.5       The driver shall always stop the engine and electric power of assigned vehicles to save consumption of fuels and the general vehicle engine performance.

1.6       He/she shall assist the Head Driver execute his daily duties by ensuring compliance with the given directives.

1.7       The Driver shall handover the assigned vehicles by doing a comprehensive handover report before departing for leave/cto.

R2:      Ensure safety of the vehicle /passengers /materials. 

2.1       Embrace ownership, caution and responsible behavior while driving to avoid any form of

            Intoxication.

2.2       Ensure safety of passengers on aboard Care vehicles.

2.3       Ensure vehicle first aid kit and fire extinguishers and other vehicle safety equipment are 

           available and in good condition.

2.4       He shall carry only authorized passengers as per the Organization policies on vehicle management.

2.5       The driver shall strictly observe Traffic Rules and Regulations and maximum speed limit as prescribed by the Traffic Act, Laws of Kenya.

2.6       The driver shall at all time park the vehicles at the designated parking area/secure place with all doors and windows locked, keys kept safely.

2.7       Ensure that all passengers are on safety belts for trips within, and outside Dadaab.

2.8       The driver shall always drive vehicles safely and comfortably and must exercise defensive

            driving while on the road to prevent accident.

2.8.1        Reckless driving shall be sufficient ground for the driver's recall and consequently be a cause of disciplinary action.

2.9       He/she shall adhere to Safety and Security regulations/SOPs.

 

R3:      Ensure all vehicles legal documentation or condition is met by the organization.      

3.1        Check validity of vehicle insurance covers, road license and Police inspection stickers.

3.2       Ensure the assigned vehicle is serviced as stipulated in the periodic servicing schedules.

3.3         Report license expiry dates to the Supervisor on time to facilitate renewals.

3.4         The Driver shall update vehicles logbook particulars by making right entries.

3.5         Clearly indicate in the Drivers’ log book the amount of fuel taken and location.

R4:      Reporting of accidents and incidents.

4.1       Report immediately to the Police and Supervisor; not accepting liability on behalf of Care.

4.2       Present a comprehensive report to the management within 24 hours.

 

III:      AUTHORITY:

·         Spending Authority: N/A

·        Supervision: N/A

·         Decision Making:             Makes limited decisions and within prescribed standards.

IV:       CONTACTS/KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: CARE staff.

External: CARE visitors.

V:        WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position shall be based in Dadaab Main Office/Ifo/Dagahely camps as well as any other extension camps and program sites.  Hot weather is prevalent throughout the year with limited basic amenities.  All vehicle movement must strictly be under scheduled police escort (scheduled convoys) with strict adherence to safety and security instructions all the time.  It is a five (5) days work station; Monday to Friday.

The incumbent shall reside out of CARE compound and shall report to work at 0800 hours and leave at 1700 hours with a lunch break of one hour.

Qualifications

VI:       QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

Education: Minimum of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and Valid Driving license class BCE and PSV.

Experience:  3 years of relevant work experience

Certificate:   Certificate of good conduct.

Competencies

·         Good communication, writing & interpersonal.

·         Ability to effectively use Microsoft office packages.
