This is a permanent, full-time position (32 hours / week) earning $24/hour.
Job Description
The Retail Buyer Lead is responsible for curating an enjoyable and enticing shopping experience for our customers. Specifically, this person is responsible for building sales and supporting the Byland Garden Centre strategic plan by providing outstanding products to our customers through an integrative approach to company purchasing practices. This individual is responsible for the research, selection, ordering and verification of confirmations of all garden accessories, gifts, and hard good products.
- Communicates with vendors to negotiate prices and contracts.
- Research, select and evaluate current and prospective products and vendors.
- Evaluate current purchasing processes (e.g. purchase orders (PO)) and pricing strategy, and provide recommendations as identified.
- Working closely with Accounts & Inventory Lead to ensure accurate data input into Point of Sale (POS) system.
- Collaborate with appropriate team members on ordering and scheduling of deliveries based on seasonal and operating demands.
- Work with management on layout, location and display of all garden goods, gift products, and other hard goods.
Qualifications
Education / Experience:
- 3-5 years experience in purchasing and merchandising
- Garden Centre Industry product knowledge

Additional Information
This is a hybrid role requiring presence across multiple locations, and an ability to work remotely 1-2 days per week. While the majority of your time will be spent on the computer, you will need to be physically able to design displays.
Our spring shipping season is fast-paced and best suited to someone who can adjust to that increased workload & hours during that timeframe. Some travel may be required for trade shows and visiting suppliers.
