Job Description

This is a Full-Time position (40 hrs.) Exempt : 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday & Week-Ends as needed

Under the administrative direction of the Director of Nursing, and the clinical guidance of the Medical Director and regulatory direction of the Health Services Administrator, incumbent is responsible for assisting in the overall operation of the Inpatient Department (Hallowell and Taylor). Assists with hires, trains, supervises, evaluates the nursing staff and coordinates the nursing services of comprehensive care services and assisted living services.

Essential Duties:

  1. Complies with federal, state, and local regulations and standards for operating a long-term care facility.

  2. Assists with the development, organization and implementation of approved policies and procedures.

  3. Directs and organizes required Medicare assessments and related documentation.

  4. Supports the Nursing Service budget.

  5. Supervises delivery of direct nursing care in Inpatient Health Care.

  6. Ensures the effective and orderly operation of the Day, Evening, and Night Shifts through adequate and effective supervision, Communication, training, and evaluation. 

  7. Responsible for performance evaluations and disciplinary actions of staff in accordance with policies ,procedures and as delegated by director of nursing

  8. Determines staffing needs and resources required for effective administration of nursing care for the resident population.

  9. Assists and supervises staff in the planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of resident care activities to achieve the highest level of quality of resident care services.

  10. Makes routine rounds on all units to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment.

  11. Assures accuracy and completeness of medical records .Follows through clinical concerns, PEER investigations with supervisors and completes educational interventions as deemed necessary.

  12. Serves as Infection Control Coordinator for Broadmead to be responsible for approving actions to prevent and control infections.(Attends ICP course for LTC as directed by Facility administration)

  13. Participates in committees as requested for the development of nursing care.

  14. Communicates effectively and cooperates with residents, families, responsible parties, other departments, and the public.

  15. Provides an appropriate environment for residents’ needs and the delivery of nursing care.

  16. Provides 24-hour on-call coverage to Health Care staff on a rotating basis with the Nurse Management team.

  17. Functions in the capacity of the Director of Inpatient Nursing in his/her absence.

  18. Serves as administrative Nurse Manager in maintaining 24 Hour operations of nursing care.

  19. Conducts and documents a thorough audit of each resident’s clinical record and medical status within 72 hours of admission and throughout the resident’s inpatient stay.  Review audits and submit a written report of findings to the Director of Inpatient Nursing monthly.

  20. Coordinates and oversees delivery of care by Licensed Nurses, Certified Medicine Aides, and Geriatric Nursing Assistants, and keeps the Director of Inpatient Nursing informed.

  21. Works closely with HIMS in accordance with medical records and administrator’s guidance.

  22. Assists staff nurses as needed in emergencies.

  23. Provides emergency care for residents as needed.

  24. Collaborates with Nursing Supervisors as well as the interdisciplinary team in order to assist in the development and implementation of individualized plan of care for each resident.

  25. Assures proper functioning of medical equipment and presence of adequate medical supplies.

  26. Assures timeliness of physician visits Consults and follows up recommendations.

  27. Attends and/or participates in department and facility meetings as needed.  Service on the following committees is anticipated:

  28. Ensures/participates in weekly skin rounds, and that the recommendations are followed through.

    3. PPS Meeting

    4. Resident Care Conferences

    5. Health Care Meeting with resident/family members as needed

    6. All others as needed

  30. Serves as liaison for admission planning with the Director of Social Work, and for discharge planning with the Outpatient Nursing Department.

  31. Provides for in-service program for nursing staff on all shifts as required by State regulations.

  32. Works cooperatively with other departments to provide and maintain the physical plant and resident services.

  33. Assists with payroll records by monitoring attendance and punctuality patterns.

  34. Works cooperatively with the Director of Inpatient Nursing to accomplish other duties as assigned


  • Thorough knowledge of general and geriatric nursing

  • Comprehensive knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures

  • Thorough knowledge of administrative management in a multi-level nursing setting

  • Requires a R.N. degree, BSN preferred

  • 3 - 5 years’ experience as a unit manager or assistant director of nursing in a similar setting

  • Must be licensed to practice nursing in the State of Maryland


  • Ensures the optimum care of patients and residents in the comprehensive and assisted living components of the Inpatient Department through careful planning, effective interpersonal relations and communication, ongoing staff development and training and appropriate guidance and supervision of staff.

  • Ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations in all nursing areas regarding staffing levels, in-service training and patient care through development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures which address these requirements.

  • Ensures integration of nursing care with overall Broadmead programs.
