Job Description
Brightspeed has an exciting opportunity for (EMS) Element Management Systems Engineers in Network Operations to join our growing team! As an EMS engineer you will be part of a team responsible for supporting network systems for Brightspeeds Broadband - DSL, PON, Brightspeed Fiber, Ethernet, Transport, and IP networks that provide the provisioning, surveillance, and maintenance capability for our large telecommunications network. This role requires extensive experience and a high degree of technical and process competencies while providing support to Brightspeed network services. Principle work includes identifying ways to improve Network Reliability and Customer Satisfaction. Perform systems administration, identify automation opportunities and work with automation developers.
In addition, you will be required to have a strong background and understanding of telecommunications NOC support systems and processes. You will work with your peers in IT and Engineering along with strategic vendor partners and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
As Element Management Systems Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues
- Successfully implement network systems maintenance requests
- Provide high-level technical & engineering feedback for network systems in configurations, troubleshooting, and service restoration
- Work with network vendor providers troubleshooting and administering network EMS’s
- Monitor and analyze performance across networks systems and underlying automation deployments
- Configuration between Network Elements, OSS systems to support provisioning (manual/autoflow) troubleshooting for Field and NOC’s, planning and capacity
- Code/Patch release
- Assists in the planning, testing and assembly of software assets and documentation
- Collaborate with Infrastructure Engineers, Application Development, Users and Management to coordinate changes
- Develop and oversee technical methods, procedures, and assist with complex solution design feedback
- Develop & document process flows
- Contribute to advancing current knowledge base for network device troubleshooting, design, and support documentation
- Provide ideas and improvements for automated systems towards improving network operations efficiencies
- Properly document network issue resolution and identification through operational ticketing systems
- Maintain network monitoring applications, equipment and utilities as needed.
- Act as liaison between customer facing teams, network operations centers, vendor support teams, and peer networks as needed
- Support the network with on call 7 x 24 x 365 for planned and unplanned network support operation
Qualifications
WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:
- Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with Element Management Systems
- Advanced understanding in Scripting, TL1, SNMP, GRPC related to network architecture and support
- Experience with isolation of telecom systems outages causes and service restorations
- Experience in provide recommendations for system automation or improved monitoring
- Advanced customer service, organizational interaction, and teamwork skills
- Proven knowledge base in scripting applications related to network architecture and support
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Strong communication (oral and written), customer service, organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Skilled Programmer in PERL, UNIX-Shell, XML, SQL, MYSQL
