Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Health and Welfare Benefits Manager to join our team!  This role will report directly to our Vice President, Total Rewards and will be an integral part of our organization!

As a Health and Welfare Benefits Manager, you will be responsible for managing the administration of employee benefit plans including health and welfare, recognition, wellness and other benefit programs. This includes bargained and non-bargained employee programs. You will serve as the primary contact for all employees regarding benefit plan inquiries and advise staff in the proper communication and administration of plan policies. You will manage the organization’s staff benefits and collaborate with HR leadership and third-party consultants and administrators in the development, communication and presentation of the company’s benefit programs.

As a Health and Welfare Benefits Manager, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the administration of the company’s health and welfare benefit plans and programs in accordance with plan documents, insurance contracts, vendor agreements and applicable federal, state and local regulations. Counsel new employees regarding benefit programs and conduct new employee orientation presentation of benefit programs.
  • Participates in the development, execution, and communication of benefit programs. Research, analyze, prepare recommendations for approval and implement additions or changes to the benefit package to enhance the overall competitiveness and cost-effectiveness of the package.
  • Coordinate third party administrators and materials for annual employee Benefit Open Enrollment
  • Ensure that all mandatory federal and state reports and filings for the US are completely accurately and on a timely basis and required communications (e.g., required DOL and ERISA reporting and communications are prepared and distributed to participants and beneficiaries as required
  • Prepare reports for non-discrimination testing, surveys, data transmissions, claims analysis, reports, and special requests
  • Support statutory compliance with FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, and HIPAA programs
  • Vendor management – establish and maintain effective relationship with benefits plan carriers to ensure performance is maintained for exceeded. Works with vendors to ensure company is exploring available technology to streamline and automate otherwise manual processes wherever possible
  • Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate work activities of subordinates and staff relating to all benefit administration, projects and inquiries
  • Collaborate with payroll and HRIS leadership in the administration of benefits data
  • Partner with the Vice President, Total Rewards to develop and manage annual benefits budget and track monthly expenses
  • Oversee vendors who process COBRA notification and serve as liaison between the company and TPA of the Family and Medical Leave process, providing counsel to management and staff regarding federal law, policies and procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring maintenance of data entry of employee benefit elections and dependent information
  • In conjunction with local HRMs, participate in management of Workers’ Compensation Management process
  • Oversee payment for benefit plan billing
  • Coordinate third party administrators and materials for annual employee Benefit Open Enrollment
  • Aid in annual year-end process for benefits, compensation and payroll

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business or equivalent discipline
  • 4+ years of HR and/or benefits administration
  • Ability to conduct research on benefits plans and changes to healthcare and insurance regulations
  • Possess a can-do attitude and has the ability to hit the ground running
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Great attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

BONUS POINTS FOR:

  • 7+ years of benefits administration and execution experience in a leadership capacity
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP designation
