In order to realize our mission, we need your help to design and build software and systems that fulfill the needs of Brightback’s customers in this emerging category. Brightback seeks to recruit a Director of Engineering to lead its software engineering life-cycle. The successful candidate will have experience recruiting and building teams, and mentoring team members. You will structure our engineering organization and optimize the team for execution. You will coordinate the activities of engineering with many stakeholders of the company, weighing priorities, timelines and business needs.

Your Responsibilities

• Own the software engineering development lifecycle at Brightback. Provide transparency into the state of engineering goals and operational status to stakeholders outside of engineering.

• Lead recruiting for our growing engineering team. Organize an interview and onboarding process that creates a positive industry reputation and high employee retention.

• Provide managerial and technical leadership to all engineers. Own the facilitation of individual contributors' career development goals.

• Participate in the definition of engineering strategy and roadmap, balancing short- and long-term priorities against the business needs.

• Define process to constantly measure and ensure a high level of product quality

• Ability to recruit, inspire and motivate an engineering team to work together as a cohesive and productive unit.

• Extraordinary written and spoken communicator to a wide range of audiences.

• A passion for technology and technical depth to uncover root causes of complex technical problems and provide guidance on solving them.

• Ability to set and drive the “big picture” strategy while also having the capability to provide detailed technical guidance to the team, enabling them to execute more effectively and deliver products on time and within budget.

• Passionate about teaching, learning and growing your expertise.

• Demonstrates clear, concise communication and data-driven decision-making.

Skills & Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in engineering or technical innovation and leading engineering teams.

• Experience building out platforms, infrastructure and API technology.

• BS, MS or PhD in computer science or a related field is strongly preferred.

• Experience in enterprise SaaS engineering leadership is strongly preferred.
