Domestic Violence Caseworker

Job Description

Job Purpose:

This post is key to developing domestic abuse interventions in line with the Council’s Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy. Hackney’s service model uses an approach that is innovative, pragmatic, holistic and robust in working with victims and, where needed, with perpetrators.

Duties:

  • To understand the context of domestic abuse, gendered violence, power and control and to design and implement case interventions accordingly
  • To work closely with criminal justice and other partner agencies to reduce the harm caused by perpetrators through advocating robustly for their apprehension, detention and removal where possible and for the risks posed by perpetrators in the community to be managed
  • To undertake pro-active case work to reduce risk and make victims safe including visiting in the community and at home as needed, undertaking assertive outreach work to engage multiple-needs / hard-to-reach victims, working jointly with partner agencies, participating in and chairing case reviews, reporting to Court and other forums, delivering actions within timescales, advocating for victims and meeting agreed targets
  • To establish rapport and build a respectful, honest and safe relationship with victims, their families where appropriate and perpetrators as needed

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must have an Enhanced DBS registered on the update service
  • Proven experience of managing caseload
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Well organised with basic administration skills
  • Able to build excellent professional rapports with clients
  • Ability to write reports and meet deadlines

Please note this is a contracted position of 3-6 months with the possibility of extension depending on budgets and performance.
