Job Description

Brainlab has been innovating significantly in the areas of surgery and radiation therapy, developing hardware and software technology to help healthcare providers, physicians and their patients fight cancer and other conditions of the brain and body. In recent years, there has been a tremendous increase in the volume and complexity of data acquired throughout the patient diagnosis and treatment process. New emerging technologies such as cloud computing, big data analysis, augmented and mixed reality as well as robotic assistance are gaining significance also in the medical field.

At Brainlab, most applications are expected to become more and more anticipative and intelligent by understanding and evaluating all kinds of information surrounding the patient including used instruments for a clinical procedure. Therefore, there is a clear need for a scalable, performant, feature-rich, stable and robust software architecture. To tackle this challenge, we are strengthening our Munich-based surgery teams (one of the two largest R&D and product clusters at Brainlab) with a passionate software architect that brings experience in software development, a strong personality and an urge to move things forward. We are explicitly looking for an individual shaping the architectural design in one of the key domains of the Brainlab products.

In this position, you will

  • dive deep into existing framework and architecture to gain a proper basis
  • collect and analyze architectural requirements and challenges
  • together with a peer group of application architects, define, design and implement a sustainable, state-of-the-art software and system architecture including major technical interfaces that supports the company's business strategy in the domain of operating room products
  • ensure high quality software by proper software design and data structures
  • closely work together with key software engineers and other related architects at Brainlab
  • help to steer the platform-computer development, cooperate with hardware and electronics engineers
  • lead expert discussions and take architectural decisions to fulfill requirements in line with Brainlab’s company goals
  • create clear and understandable documentation of architectural concepts
  • share your knowledge and provide technical guidance to your colleagues in- and outside of the team
  • guide and support people on the way from concept via implementation to verification
  • approach challenges from systems thinking perspective
  • participate in and drive architecture focused pilot and prove-of-concept implementation projects
  • contribute to our success with your creative ideas and your independent and self-responsible way of working

Qualifications

  • passion for innovative high-tech products and for technological advancement
  • excellent communication, collaboration and documentation skills (fluent English)
  • professional experience in software development
    • degree in Computer Science, information technology or related discipline
    • 7+ years professional experience in object-oriented software development (preferably C++)
    • 5+ years professional experience in architectural software design
  • profound understanding of concepts and trends in computer software and technology
  • experience with and affinity to also hardware parts of systems (computer architecture including operating systems)
  • ability to quickly grasp new contexts and get familiar with new tools
  • well-organized and clearly structured, agile working style
  • open mind-set, finding creative solutions for challenges on a daily basis and willing to collaboratively define and grow explicit software architecture at Brainlab
  • hands-on mentality
