Job Description

“Mit 5G Leben retten – saving lives with 5G”, this is the title of an ambitious project between the university hospital Düsseldorf UKD, Vodafone, Brainlab and other partners.

For this we create Europe’s first medical 5G campus at a university hospital. The 5G network provides a quantum leap for digital transformation of healthcare and medicine at universities, driven by the expertise of a broad spectrum of medical specialties and industry.

Within this project, Brainlab will integrate its Mixed Reality technology within surgical procedures and combine it with 5G. Currently Brainlabs Mixed Reality Viewer provides a novel perspective on patient anatomy. With a head-mounted display, this software frees patient data from the 2D screen and brings it into the operating room. Surgeons can move around and interact with medical data as never before.

One milestone of this project is to enhance Mixed Reality Viewer by planning functionalities for tumor surgery and anatomical teaching. To support this project, our R&D Viewer team at Brainlab is looking for a Software Developer.

In this project you can influence the shape of the software, take over responsibilities and create solutions in close cooperation with the medical experts. In fast iterations with surgeons and staff of the UKD, you can drive decisions and directly sculpt the solution. In addition, you will be part of a fast-paced and motivated team. Thinking outside the box will be rewarded by immediate feedback from the end user of your software.

Your main tasks will include to:

  • create and develop concepts of Mixed Reality for surgical planning and teaching
  • bring your software engineering expertise to the medical world
  • have direct communication with surgeons and clinical experts
  • contribute to application development of the successful DICOM Viewer (C++ application with HTML5/JavaScript frontend)
  • be creative

Qualifications

  • background in Computer Science, Computer Visualization or similar
  • strong interest and skills in software engineering and object-oriented programming in C++
  • eagerness to communicate to clinical experts and collect feedback
  • being able to manage requirements and coordinate with users and industry partners
  • you enjoy multidisciplinary projects and taking responsibility
  • autonomously drive the project while keeping an eye on defined goals
  • you feel comfortable in an agile software development environment or are interested in developing the skills required
  • very good fluent and written communication skills in German and English
  • willingness to work remotely from anywhere in Germany with regular travels to our headquarters in Munich
