Job Description

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for purchasing of Trane and non-Trane related products and maintaining correct inventory levels for all parts stores while insuring that the products purchased are at lowest market price.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Will work with service department and other Brady business units to develop and lead a new procurement model to maximize purchasing power for the company.
  • Maintains constant awareness of markets, competitor activities and problems within assigned area; recognizes trends that develop, makes appropriate recommendations as required.
  • Assisting in the creation and implementation of a parts e-commerce strategy.
  • Supporting the creation and delivery of an enhanced logistics strategy for parts distribution.
  • Analyzes and prepares inventory forecasts and reports: reviews purchasing history.
  • Develops seasonal range plans that cover operations, personnel, financial performance, and growth.
  • Sets work priorities by reviewing area performance and comparing with short and long term goals.
  • Evaluates stock quantities, adjust stock levels, and selects items for weekly orders.
  • Responsible for all aspects of inventory control including replenishment, stocking, cycle counting, and full physical inventories.
  • Evaluates and orders new product lines.
  • Works with store managers and outside sales force to implement product promotions.
  • Conducts market price and product needs analyses.
  • Makes recommendations concerning showroom enhancements and new product requirements.
  • Tracks shipments and monitors incoming inventory for prompt arrival.
  • Works with store managers to administer stock returns and maintains inventory turns.
  • Develops commodity management and sourcing strategy for assigned commodities.
  • Builds and develops relationships with key suppliers and customers.
  • Evaluates suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery speed.
  • Meets with vendors to negotiate improved pricing, product quality, and delivery.
  • Supports the inside and outside sales team.
  • Develops and implements purchasing instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable new goods or services with vendors and others to determine cause of problem and take corrective and preventative action.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises associates in the purchasing department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees: planning assigning and directing work: appraising performance, coaching and mentoring employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.





Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Five to ten years of procurement experience, knowledge of ecommerce and logistics.

The physical demands of the position include occasional sitting, climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling and reaching; frequent standing, balancing and gripping; and constant walking. Material handling demands include lifting from floor level to overhead, with occasional lifting up to 100 lbs., frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., and constant lifting up to 10 lbs., placing the position in the Heavy Physical Demand Classification (PDC). Must be able to talk and hear. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
