Junior Copywriter - Remote

  • Full-time

Company Description

Bracken is the digital marketing agency for the digital health industry. Our clients are bringing to market the digital tools (software, apps, devices, etc.) driving some of healthcare’s most significant advances, and we’re helping to shape the future of healthcare by creating high-quality content for these diverse companies.

*We are a fully remote company and this position is open to all candidates authorized to work in the United States.

Job Description

About the Role

In hiring a Junior Copywriter, we’re looking for a uniquely capable individual with impeccable writing skills. An ideal candidate is organized, analytical, quick-thinking, and self-motivated, with high standards for their own work product. We’d also like to find someone whose core values resonate with our own:

  • Problem-solving attitude
  • An always-learning mindset
  • Collaborative team focus
  • Resilience
  • Kindness

Our clients operate at the intersection of health and technology—and so does our content. Thus, the copy we write often requires research and always require close attention to how our clients describe themselves and their offerings. (Given the subject matter we work with, this applies to social posts as well as to long-form articles.)

Experience in the life sciences, healthcare, or tech is not necessary, but a deep understanding of how language works is required. We’re not just looking for someone who can generate word count—that’s not useful for what we do. Instead, we’re looking for a writer with a genuine commitment to quality, originality, and accuracy. (And someone who notices when a sentence reads like driving over potholes.) You’d be a great candidate if you can:

  • Produce precise, articulate, professional writing
  • Generate strong, clear, effective ad copy—saying a lot with few words and within character limits
  • Write for nuances of tone and voice
  • Polish safely, smoothing out clunky syntax without altering meaning
  • Edit reliably, catching and resolving issues of grammar, spelling, clarity, word choice, syntax, etc.

Areas of Responsibility

Content & Copy Development

  • Produce copy for various collateral: ads and social media, informative articles like blog posts and profiles, promotional items like case studies or sales sheets, and long-form work such as eBooks and white papers.
  • Learn, comprehend, and write about topics in the life sciences, healthcare, medicine, and health tech
  • Produce quality work to required specifications and on deadline
  • Write appropriately for the genre: smart, clear copy informed by SEO, buyer personas, strategy, and tone
  • Leverage and draw on existing copy wisely for landing pages, infographics, etc.

Account & Content Support

  • Participate in client calls and internal team calls
  • Implement feedback and copy edits from clients and teammates
  • Ensure content integrity and version control throughout the edit process
  • Help interview client leadership and subject matter experts to glean material for content
  • Help with content planning and strategy

Qualifications

What You’d Bring to the Team

We’re looking for:

  • Masterful writing skills – as demonstrated through writing samples or a portfolio
  • Exceptional communication skills – you can write precisely and articulate nuance effectively
  • Poise and professionalism – you can engage effectively on client calls
  • A comprehensive understanding of the “rules” of language
  • The judgment to discern when and how to break those rules effectively
  • Bachelor’s degree (this will not be used as a sole determinate for qualification)
  • Ability to flourish in a remote setting. In our experience, that usually looks something like this: a poised and professional attitude, a strong internal work ethic, and (of course) kindness.

If you have experience/special interest in any of the following, we’d love to hear the details:

  • Research (academic or otherwise)
  • Writing for a college newspaper or other student publication; or any writing for which you were paid
  • Social media content and/or account management
  • Explaining or writing about technology, science, or other complex topic
  • Digital marketing and content marketing strategy
  • Multimedia content (video, podcasting, etc.)
  • Graphic design; and/or working on projects alongside graphic designers

If you are a master of language who wants to write for a living, and can write engagingly on topics that are sometimes technical in nature, this could be a terrific fit. If you’re the sort of writer who, when you encounter a weak piece of writing, can precisely identify why it’s bad, we can’t wait to talk to you. And if you’re mentally editing this paragraph, go ahead and apply already!
