Job Description

Conduct walk-through and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure(s) of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and any other relate dequipment.

Completion of all routine maintenance on publicspaces, meeting rooms, outlets, back of the house spaces and grounds. Assignsand verifies completion of all repairs, replacement, and renovation projects tooffices and employee work areas.

Adheres to all required purchasing policies andcontrols, to include all outside contractor bids, budgets and schedules.

Maintains effective energy management and preventivemaintenance programs, conducting special training for other operatingdepartments on the safe and effective use of equipment and energy in the hotel.

Informs the General Manager and hotel departmentheads, on a regular basis, regarding the specific and overall condition of thebuilding structure(s), related systems and equipment offering prudent, and costeffective proposals for maintaining same. Access and input information into acomputer and generate reports.

Other:

Regular attendance inconformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, isessential to the successful performance of this position.

Employees with irregularattendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and includingtermination of employment.

Due to the cyclical natureof the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varyingschedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.

Upon employment, allemployees are required to fully comply with rules and regulations for the safeand efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Hotel rulesand regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and includingtermination of employment.

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performanceof the essential functions, this position may be required to perform acombination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of timeperforming each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based uponthe particular requirements of the hotel.

·        Maintains appropriate supply of materials and equipment to carry outthe normal day-to-day operating and maintenance requirements of the hotel.

·        Maintains organized and efficient administrative and filing systemswithin Property Operations for the timely and accurate handling ofcorrespondence, reports, requisitions for purchase, and other administrativerequirements of the department.

·        Maintains a well-defined, and organized system within the shop for theinventory maintenance, and storage of all tools, products, materials, andequipment necessary to execute the required activities of the department.

·        Immediately available to report to the hotel in the event of any hotelemergency which necessitates the skills and expertise of the Chief Engineer. Byexample such emergencies may include, but not be limited to fires, power orother equipment failures, floods, lighting, earthquake, or other disasters ofsimilar nature and magnitude.

·        Perform other duties as requested.


Qualifications

Specific Job knowledge, skill and ability

The individual must possess the following knowledge,skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

·        Excellent knowledge of electrical systems, components, and devices,HVAC systems, boilers, mechanical systems, and the maintenance and repair ofall.

·        Excellent knowledge of public construction and building systems; allrelated permits, licensing, new and existing codes pertaining to publicbuilding and fire safety.

·        Skill in use of computers and software programs associated withproperty operations.

·        Skilled in the proper and safe use of all tools, equipment, materials,chemicals, and products relating to the department.

·        Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.

·        Ability to remain informed on state-of-the-art developments effectingthe safe and effective operation of the building facility.

·        Ability to analyze all associated systems as to their design, intent,and effective performance.

·        Ability to positively communicate and instruct employees, offeringassistance in areas where they lack knowledge, skills or experience. Able torephrase, or “translate” fairly technical information into terms in which alayperson may easily understand.

 


QUALIFICATIONS

QualificationStandards

Education:

Graduation from highschool and from an apprenticeship, advance-training program for operatingengineers recognized by the industry and trade. Or any other combination ofeducation, training, or experience that provides the necessary knowledge,skills, and abilities to perform the job.

Experience:

Three years experienceperforming building maintenance in a hotel or related industry. One yearexperience as a head or assistant chief engineer in same or similarenvironment.                  

Licenses or certificates:

Any licenses or permits thatmay be required by law or company regulations, such as an Electrician’slicense.

 Grooming:

All employees must maintaina neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available).
