Job Description

Make your mark as an Environmental Reporting Scientist!

As an Environmental Reporting Scientist you will interpret and present the data in reports for our clients in an accurate, clear and concise manner. Data shall be from the Environmental and Marine Wildlife Departments core disciplines of either Marine Wildlife or Environmental acquisition. Marine Wildlife data shall include sighting and acoustic data. Environmental data shall include chemical (sediment and water hydrocarbons, metals and nutrients), physical (particle size analysis and water profiling) and biological (plankton, benthic infauna or epifauna).


Your responsibilities

  • Collate data related to field work for particular projects and organise paper and electronic records. This includes raw analytical data, field logs, photographs and video recordings.
  • Analyse, interpret and present data relevant to the Marine Wildlife and/or Environmental disciplines (training will be given where required) sufficient to satisfy client requirements.
  • Qualitative, quantitative, statistical and geospatial analysis of data using appropriate software (training will be given where required).
  • Interpret ecological status and effects of anthropogenic activities pertinent to the project.
  • Draft reports based on field data, data analyses and interpretations.
  • Maintain quality control records for reporting and report production.
  • Update databases with individual project metadata and key analysis results when required.
  • Assist Senior and Lead Environmental Reporting Scientists with quality control of data received from laboratories or external parties for own projects.

Qualifications

Your qualities
You can make your mark as an Environmental Reporting Scientist if you have:

  • Bachelors Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (i.e. Marine Biology, Environmental Science etc.)
  • MSc or higher degree in marine environmental subject is desirable
  • Proven scientific writing capability
  • Three years experience of MS Office products (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Marine survey and reporting experience in a relevant discipline is desirable
  • Familiarity with ecology and physiology of one or more groups from marine wildlife, benthic, planktonic or nektonic fauna
  • Experience of Adobe Acrobat, statistical (Primer, R) and geospatial (ArcGIS, QGIS) software is desirable.
