Job Description

At Bosch Research, we're on a mission to create cutting-edge AI algorithms for exciting industrial applications such as driving-assistant systems, automated driving, and agentic AI systems for knowledge management and engineering. Our algorithmic innovations provide the basis for highly-performant, robust and safe use of AI across various business fields of the Bosch group.

  • As a Director for AI Research you will lead the largest team of AI experts at Bosch, consisting of over 80 scientists and engineers, as well as more than 20 PhD students, and you will foster their skill and career development.
  • You will be responsible for a research portfolio that covers a wide spectrum of topics, including agentic AI, large language models, automated driving, robotics, time-series and dynamics modeling, reinforcement learning, behavior modeling, generative design, and embedded AI.
  • Furthermore, you will shape research agendas and technology roadmaps to ensure that research findings are successfully transferred into Bosch products and services.
  • You will build a close network with strategic portfolios of Corporate Research, key AI players within Bosch's business sectors and central units, as well as with leading international academic institutions.
  • Additionally, you will shape the culture and identity of your high-performance research team and support the professional and personal development of your team members.
  • Last but not least, you will  constantly stay on the cutting edge, anticipate new trends in the fast-paced field of AI, and translate AI research into tangible business value for Bosch.

Qualifications

  • Education: excellent PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field, with a focus on machine learning, particularly deep learning and natural language Processing
  • Experience and Know-how:
    •  several years of experience leading applied research teams in relevant AI fields
    • deep and broad understanding of modern machine learning technologies, including GenAI, Agentic AI, Foundation Models, and their application in Bosch business sectors
    • product-oriented experience in real-world industrial AI applications
    • good understanding of MLOps architectures and (GPU) hardware platforms for training and deploying large machine learning models
    • strong publication history in machine learning; experience in supervising PhD students and postdocs
  • Personality and Working Style: you act as a self-confident, responsible, and reliable leader who inspires other leaders; you are a role model for establishing a high-performance culture in research teams; you have a strong entrepreneurial spirit and understand the business models for AI; you present and communicate professionally across all hierarchical levels and to all target audiences; you maintain an interdisciplinary and collaborative mindset to build strong international networks in all application areas of CR
  • Enthusiasm: you are passionate about AI and always want to be at the forefront of the rapidly evolving AI research landscape; you have a strong motivation to lead an interdisciplinary and international team; you are a strong motivator and team player with a passion for employee development and for establishing a high-performance culture within the team; you possess a strategic vision to transform the opportunities of modern AI into business advantages for Bosch; you want to actively contribute to the strategic roadmaps of CR and Bosch for AI and are willing to help shape the further strategic development of CR
  • Languages: fluent in English, German is a plus
