Senior Data Engineer – Cloud Data Pipelines for Human Motion Data (EG16, f/m/div.) - Secondment limited to 12 months
- Full-time
Company Description
At Bosch, we shape the future with technologies that enrich people’s lives. Join a small, high‑impact team in Corporate IP Ventures for Robert Bosch Robotics GmbH to turn large‑scale human motion data from our plants into privacy‑preserving, high‑quality datasets for training and customer delivery.
The Robert Bosch GmbH is looking forward to your application!
Job Description
- As a Senior Data Engineer you design and own the end-to-end data product and platform for motion capture data from Bosch factories.
- Additionally, you conceptualize and implement edge-to-cloud pipelines, ensuring secure data ingestion, validation, and automated quality checks.
- Your responsibilities include structuring the data architecture by separating raw data from metadata and defining canonical keys for indexing and data lineage.
- Furthermore, you will build a lakehouse architecture on a hyperscaler, implementing governance policies and curated data access (e.g., via object storage and SQL catalog).
- You embed the "Privacy-by-Design" principle into the system by introducing consent management, anonymizing/pseudonymizing data, and implementing auditable controls.
- Moreover, you enable visualization of the entire pipeline, avoiding vendor lock-in and actively managing costs for outgoing data traffic.
- You ensure comprehensive observability of the system, monitoring data quality, synchronization, schema evolution, reliability, and costs.
- Developing a "digital storefront" and provide batch APIs that make curated and PII-protected datasets accessible will be also your task.
- You consistently leverage agent-based AI by utilizing autonomous agents and copilots to create pipelines, generate tests, analyze data, process incidents, and optimize system performance and costs.
- Last but not least, you might work with technologies such as Azure/AWS/GCP, Spark/SQL, event streaming, workflow orchestration, open formats (e.g., Parquet/Delta), and visualization tools (e.g., ReRun/Foxglove).
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Data/Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
- Experience and Knowledge: several years of hands-on experience in building cloud-native data platforms, lakehouse/data lake architectures, batch and streaming pipelines; excellent in-depth knowledge of Python and SQL; solid expertise in security and governance (IAM, encryption, RBAC/ABAC) and in privacy engineering (GDPR); experience with edge-to-cloud ingestion for high-volume video/time-series data using open data formats; proficiency with CI/CD processes, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), containers, and a strong awareness of cost-optimized architectures; hands-on experience with common technologies such as Azure/AWS/GCP, Spark, Kafka/Event Hubs, or Airflow/Data Factory/Workflows
- Personality and Working Practice: you are system thinker who favors open standards and collaborates with hardware, robotics, and legal/compliance
- Enthusiasm: passion for robotics/data and delivering industrial‑scale quality
- Languages: very good written and spoken German and English
