Job Description
This position will be responsible for leading the product development activities of mechanical and/or electronic-mechanical service tools and equipment for automotive, commercial and ag/off-road vehicles.
This position is fully accountable for designing and developing new products, redesigning existing products, overseeing the prototype delivery and testing of products that meet the schedule, costs, and performance specification of internal and external customers. Full responsibility for all engineering documentation, specifications, engineering quality, and required data for the assigned project or customer account.
• Develop a collaborative partnership with the customer to ensure that customer needs are anticipated and met; Will work closely and in partnership with the sales team.
• Conceptualize and design new products/tools to meet customer specifications in a timely manner utilizing the best of Engineering practices (GD&T, DFMEA, DFM, CAD, physical testing, finite element analysis, etc.).
• Conduct validation and verification activities including analysis (calculations and/or FEA), physical testing, design reviews, and FMEA’s on new tools to assure form, fit, function and safety.
• Support production through continuous product engineering, problem solving, and warranty reduction.
• Utilize standard measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gage, thread pitch gages, etc. to perform initial sample inspection reports.
• Document designs and technical project data using accepted engineering documentation practices (drawings, BOM, test reports, design reviews, FMEA, etc)
• Lead product development projects, utilizing project management skills and best engineering practices to meet project objectives (cost, schedule, and technical objectives).
• Provide technical and quality support to suppliers and build strong relationships
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering disciplines
• Minimum 3-5 years of related work experience. Automotive Industry experience required
• 3 years Experience with Automotive Workshops service repair procedures and tools
• 3-D CAD Proficiency (Solidworks preferred)
• Direct customer-facing experience required
• Demonstrated design skills of mechanical structures and systems utilizing knowledge of similar product, conceptual layouts, and analysis
• Proficient in finite element analysis (FEA) software, preferably Solidworks/Simulation
• Fluency in Japanese (spoken, written)
• Good command of English to participate in discussions with NA and EU
