Job Description

The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring payroll tax compliance and reconciliations in the United States. You will play a vital role in delivering accurate statutory reporting, timely remittance submissions, and resolving payroll tax issues, while also supporting payroll processing as needed. You will have hands on exposure to payroll operations, collaboration with internal stakeholders, and participation in audits and compliance initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, reconcile, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax returns for U.S. federal, state, and local agencies
  • Reconcile W-2 forms and prepare any necessary adjustments for W-2c corrections
  • Resolve complex employee tax questions and issues and ensure the education of the HR services team to triage and respond to simpler questions and issues
  • Research and respond to monthly variances related to payroll and tax accounts
  • Reconcile quarterly and annual payroll tax reports for federal agencies, states, and other local entities
  • Ensure that annual tax statements and adjustments are posted timely and accurately for employees, including those on international assignments
  • Research and respond to federal, state, and local tax notices, and support and manage the response for tax audits and jurisdictional inquiries
  • Research required payroll taxes for federal agencies, states, provinces, and local entities and ensure these jurisdictions are updated on time in our on-premise payroll system for proper employee and company withholding
  • Provide specialist support for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures as required

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or taxation, or HS Diploma.  
  • 2+ years of experience with multi-state, and local payroll tax experience.  Strong knowledge of US payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis, forecasting, and reconciliation
  • Proficiency in auditing techniques and advanced payroll compliance knowledge
  • Experience with multi-state full cycle payroll processing, including tax withholding and general ledger entry
  • Demonstrated understanding of payroll including garnishments, bonus payments, special payments, and payroll taxes for the US
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail
  • Experience identifying, evaluating, and supporting process improvements
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUPs, charts, and graphs
  • Highly organized with exceptional time management, capable of handling multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, suitable for professional interactions with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong customer service orientation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FPC or CPP Certification.
  • Experience with major ERP/HRIS systems such as SAP, Workday, and/or ADP Tax
  • Skilled in automation and data visualization tools like Alteryx, Microsoft Power BI, or Power Automate
