PhD thesis - hybrid modeling of structural dynamics in eBike drive units at Bosch eBike Systems

  • Full-time
  • Legal Entity: Robert Bosch GmbH

Company Description

At Bosch, we shape the future by inventing high-quality technologies and services that spark enthusiasm and enrich people’s lives. Our promise to our associates is rock-solid: We grow together, we enjoy our work, and we inspire each other. Welcome to Bosch.

The Robert Bosch GmbH is looking forward to your application!

Job Description

The PhD project covers the following:

  • Our eBike customers enjoy nature, therefore our goal is to make eBike drive units as silent as a conventional bike.
  • In the whole mobility industry the analysis of the transfer path of structure-borne noise is still far from being straightforward - huge complexity and only partially understood physical phenomena are great challenges for ongoing active research.
  • While in the past, R&D has mainly focused on clear physical understanding (both through simulation and experiment), artificial intelligence comes with huge possibilities but is not expected to replace current methods.
  • Hybrid modeling techniques promise to combine the strengths of both approaches in order to raise NVH possibilities in eBike drive units to another level.
  • A suited combination of theoretical understanding, subsequent computation and experimentally generated knowledge is expected to be most fruitful and due to the highly agile environment at Bosch eBike, any progress made will soon find its implementation in new products.

The following tasks are waiting for you:

  • You will be working on an innovative and forward-looking project.
  • In your everyday work, you will collaborate with various interdisciplinary teams.
  • As part of our advance development team you will be supported by a network of experts in fields like dynamics and vibrations, acoustics, mechanical design, gears, motors, control engineering, simulation, and AI.

Qualifications

  • Education: excellent Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience and Knowledge: strong background in major field of expertise (e.g., theoretical mechanics, artificial intelligence, etc.), thorough
exposure and high motivation to learn in other covered areas
  • Personality and Working Practice: curious, creative, highly intrinsically motivated, quick comprehension, independent and autonomous working style
  • Languages: very good written and spoken English and sufficient German skills
