We are currently seeking a dynamic, experienced Product Design Engineer to join our team in India, focusing on special tools in the automotive aftermarket. This role requires frequent travel throughout the India market. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing comprehensive solutions for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Independent Aftermarket (IAM) customers, with a focus on designing solutions for our customers to speed up the service at workshops, as well as assure quality. They will drive the development of innovative special tools and lead business development in the rapidly evolving automotive aftermarket.

Job Description

The Design Engineer - Customer Projects - Special Tools position will be responsible for overseeing engineering design process and standardization of design elements.  The products will encompass mechanical special service tools and equipment for automotive, commercial, and agricultural/off-road vehicles. The position is fully accountable for optimizing the design process, as well as ensuring adherence to global Bosch Engineering process. The position has responsibility to attend all customers in India, including global alignment for customers with headquarters in other regions. 

Main Responsibility:

  1. Development of new Specialty Tools and Equipment according to customers demand in India
    • Define the product concepts and enable visualization of ideas as CAD models.
    • Shares responsibility with other functions in product development team to ensure that all considered products meet quality standards and that new product development schedule is met.
    • Development of innovative special tools tailored for Electric Vehicles, reflecting Bosch's commitment to cutting-edge technology.
    • Analyze customers’ requirements and evaluate engineering strategy for the tool design, assuring final product is released for production and distribution to customers.
  2. Active communication with Bosch Sales Teams and Customers to identify new opportunities in the market and increase business via additional development of tool in India.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with OEM partners across India.
    • Actively promote special tools solutions and services to our customers, together sales team.
    • Manage and optimize special tools designs for OEM customers, ensuring a comprehensive solution for the original automotive equipment market.
  3. Perform engineering based on theoretical calculation (in example FEA) and confirm project with functional tests.
    • Work with Solidworks to design the special tools, and complete design with 2D drawings.
    • Perform FEA calculations for loading tools.
    • Follow up tests at suppliers (or other Bosch locations) to assure quality.
       
  4. Support with Market survey, competition analysis and suppliers demand.
    • Analyze field complaints and use Bosch problem solving techniques to resolve the issues.
    • Work with suppliers to improve their process and eliminate quality problems.
    • Support innovation team with analysis of competitors’ products.
       
  5. Support with product design Inquiry from regions, quality issues etc.

Collaborate with the Global Product Engineering teams to align regional strategies with global objectives for both OEM and IAM segments
 

Qualifications

  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related Engineering discipline required.
  • 3+ years of relevant mechanical engineering work with exposure to engineering process and/or product standardization. Experience within the Automotive Industry preferred.
  • 3-D CAD and 2-D Technical Drawing Proficiency including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) - Solidworks preferred.
  • Demonstrated design skills of mechanical structures and systems utilizing knowledge of similar product, conceptual layouts, and analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationship with customer as well as internal team members.
  • Understanding of the product development process, manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Proficiency in PC skills; Microsoft Office
