Job Description

The Foreign Trade Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that NewCo's operations in the Asia-Pacific region, including China, comply with all applicable foreign trade and customs regulations. This role involves coordination with customs brokers, liaising with regulatory authorities and the legal department, and supporting the regional organization on foreign trade-related topics. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of NewCo's supply chain and trade activities within the AP/CN region.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all aspects of NewCo’s operations in the AP/CN region adhere to international and local foreign trade and customs laws and regulations. This includes monitoring changes in legislation and implementing necessary compliance strategies.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of customs brokers within the AP/CN region to ensure efficient and compliant customs clearance processes. Evaluate and select brokers based on performance, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory authorities in matters related to foreign trade. Collaborate with the legal department to align corporate policies with legal requirements and to address any compliance issues or investigations.
  • Provide support and guidance to the regional organization on foreign trade-related issues, such as the utilization of foreign trade zones, bonded warehouses, HS code classification, and customs/emissions reporting requirements.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for internal teams to enhance understanding of foreign trade compliance requirements and procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments related to foreign trade activities to identify potential areas of non-compliance and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of customs and trade activities to regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders. Maintain comprehensive records of all compliance documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in foreign trade compliance, customs regulations, and international business practices within the Asia-Pacific region, including China. This experience should demonstrate a deep understanding of the complexities and regulatory environments of the region.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of AP/CN customs procedures, HS code classification, and trade facilitation programs such as foreign trade zones and bonded warehouses.
  • Proven track record of successful liaison with regulatory authorities and customs brokers.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across different cultures and organizational levels.
  • Fluent in English and proficiency in Mandarin or other relevant languages in the AP/CN region is highly desirable.
