Job Description

In industrial systems, where real-time and time-critical applications are prevalent, deterministic communication protocols like Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Deterministic Networking (DetNet) are essential for maintaining reliable and predictable data transmission. These protocols prioritize critical data traffic, enforce strict timing requirements, and provide mechanisms for congestion control and fault tolerance. However, the adoption of these deterministic communication protocols in industrial systems faces certain challenges (e.g. interoperability, configuration complexity) that need to be addressed. This internship will investigate and propose solutions to these challenges, contributing to the wider adoption and successful implementation of deterministic communication protocols in industrial settings.

  • During your internship, you will familiarize yourself with the requirements and challenges of communication systems in the context of industrial systems.
  • You will conduct in-depth research on deterministic connectivity technologies, including Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Deterministic Networking (DetNet), with the aim of improving their adoption and integration in industrial systems.
  • Furthermore, you will collaborate with the research team to create new ideas and concepts.
  • Additionally, you will conduct experiments and tests to validate the performance and reliability of these technologies.
  • Finally, you will document findings, creating reports and presenting research findings.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master studies in the field of Computer Science, Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering or comparable
  • Experience and Knowledge: basic knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, proficiency in programming languages such as Python or C++ is a plus
  • Personality and Working Practice: analytical, problem-solving skills, communicative, team player, independent and initiative
  • Languages: fluent in English
